Judge visits SMHDF homes in Belvedere to assess damages
BELVEDERE - Not many court cases end with a judge personally visiting the site of a case in question. However, on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 11, 2018, a walkthrough of the homes of tenants fighting a court case against the SMHDF took place.

Dear Reader
In this edition we feature several stories about some citizens who still do not have proper housing or repaired homes to live suitably in despite the fact that a named storm, that can be of possible hurricane strength by the time it reaches our region, is heading our way.
The Rental Committee is even urging tenants to file complaints with the housing committee if they feel they are being victimized by landlords. On the French side the situation is no better for many residents.
Even a judge took the time out in our lead story to personally see the damages of homes in a court case between homeowners and the SMHDF foundation with his own two eyes. He will render a verdict in that case on September 28.
One of our legal minds sent us an article from last year that was written in response to Hilbert Haar's opinion piece about St. Maarten being completely in control when it comes to accepting financial aid from the Kingdom partners. Apparently, that is not the case writes Roeland Zwanikken based on an analysis that is also supported by an opinion piece published by Arjen van Rijn as well. See the articles below with the two opposing views (re)published here for your reading convenience.
Hilbert Haar continues to relate back to us his experiences while on the great train journey through Mongolia in part three of his travel series. Part four will be published this Sunday and part five the week after. Haar also continues to give us his opinion pieces about the going-ons here on St. Maarten despite his limited internet access during his journey.
Happy readings!
