Dear Reader
Today we bring awareness to elderly abuse with our opening report on the topic.
One day it could be any of us suffering abuse at the hands of caretakers.
Just last week, a restraining order was issued against the caretaker of Marvel comics creator magnate Stan Lee for elderly abuse charges. So imagine the problems for those who are not as wealthy as Mr. Lee and have the means to protect themselves with the help of family or friends.
Fortunately, there are those on St. Maarten who are fervently championing this cause and StMaartenNews.com supports them wholeheartedly. We appreciate the fact that the Minister of VSA - true to form - was quick to acknowledge the lack of reflection on the International Day of Awareness Against Elderly Abuse on the part of his ministry when contacted via email about this. You can read his statement on this topic in our newsletter below.
No doubt the minister can expect a response from Mr. Raymond Jessurun as he continues his fight against all forms of structural abuse and neglect of especially the elderly and the poor on St. Maarten.
In this edition we also publish the
last opinion piece written by Hilbert Haar in his capacity as reporter for StMaartenNews.com. His opinion pieces will be sorely missed here at StMaartenNews.com. Agree with his opinions are not, they have certainly influenced the journalistic landscape of St. Maarten. We hope for the better, of course. In any case, with his last opinion piece entitled "
A Delta Plan for St. Maarten", it is truly the end of a journalistic era for St. Maarten that started with the demise of the Today newspaper as a result of the destruction caused by hurricane Irma.
We will be demanding an encore from Mr. Haar. So stay tuned... You never know what he might come with next.
In the meantime, have a great week and be on the look out for a new government that might be sworn in any time soon if all go according to plans.
