Dear Reader

Two items dominated the news of days on Tuesday: Scotiabank to sell off Caribbean branches and Curacao's Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte's conviction becomes irrevocable. The news also spread quickly like wild fire on the internet and social media that Schotte had fled the country to The Dominican Republic where there is no extradition with the Kingdom of the Netherlands. However, MFK party member of Parliament Charles Cooper was quick to denounce the rumors via Whatsapp himself stating that Schotte and his life partner were right there in Curacao still fighting the injustice that was served upon them and that the MFK party stood firmly behind its leader and his partner in their time of difficulty. The couple is also awaiting the court's verdict in their appeal case against the liens placed on their earnings as is being enforced in the recovery process as a result of Schotte's conviction. It is expected that Schotte will voluntarily report to prison as soon as his membership of Parliament has been revoked.

In the meantime, according to posts on social media employees of Scotiabank St. Maarten have been in deliberations due to the upsetting news received that their bank is being sold off. Meanwhile in Antigua, Prime Minister Gaston Bell was quick to point out that no sale of Scotiabank in Antigua & Barbuda would be made without government's approval. It is to be expected that more employee unrest will occur across the Caribbean as the news of Scotiabank's divestiture sinks in.

StMaartenNews.com has also been reliably informed that the Minister of Justice here on St. Maarten can also expect employee unrest if immediate measures are not taken to sign off on and finally implement the staff function book of the police force, among other demands the unions have. StMaartenNews.com will bring you more news on this as developments occur.

In the meantime, please do enjoy reading our full newsletter today.

Happy readings!
