Dear Reader
The stand MP Chanel Brownbill took is still a mystery to many people.
When he initially announced he is taking a stand, many on social media sarcastically asked what stand he was taking, as it was not clear in his press statement. Many wondered out loud if he was taking a mike stand, a tv stand or a speaker stand. It turned out he was taking a grand stand.
As if the chaos caused by hurricane Irma and the looters was not enough damage for St. Maarten, the political chaos this young MP has caused is enough to set the island back even further than it already is in its infant development as a country.
We wonder who is whispering in this young man's ear and what advice they are giving him because what they hope to gain is a mystery to us. All they have achieved is Holland moving the goal post even further back as the Dutch government, via its newly appointed State Secretary, is warning that this situation will only serve to delay the process for receiving aid.
No doubt with the political turmoil a vote of no confidence and the subsequent dissolving of Parliament will cause, will be enough ammunition for the Dutch to come with even more conditions. Trust us... we have seen this playbook before, and the divide and conquer strategy of the Dutch is subtly reaching its climax today as Parliament hold its continuation session this morning.
So what will the stand MP Brownbill took achieve? Nothing! Luckily, we still have time at this 11th hour. So be smart honourable Members of Parliament and honourable Ministers, let wisdom prevail. Put your heads together and form a national government for the sake of St. Maarten and its people. Talk of self-determination, autonomy and independence has no value if you all cannot come together and speak with one voice, as one people and as one nation. Do not let outside forces break us up. Hurricane Irma did not. Unite and form a national government today!
