Dear Reader

Today Members of Parliament will sit in an urgent plenary public meeting at 10am in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament at Wilhelminastraat #1 in Philipsburg. The Minister of Finance will be present for this meeting.

The agenda point is:

Draft National Ordinance to amend the National Ordinance Budget 2017 in connection with changes to the Ordinary Service (IS/252/2017 - 2018 dated December 21, 2017) (ZJ 2017 - 2018 105)

Ontwerp van Landsverordening tot wijziging van de Landsverordening begroting 2017 in verband met wijzigingen van de Gewone Dienst (IS/252/2017-2018 d.d. 21 december 2017) (ZJ 2017-2018-105)

Members of the public are invited to the House of Parliament to attend this parliamentary deliberation.

Now why is this meeting of Parliament so important?

60% of the poll-takers of yesterday's poll know why........ Else, there is no money!

Prime Minister Boasman said during this week's Council of Minister's press briefing that the Government would need a financial injection in order to survive the 2018 budget cycle. Boasman said that budget amendments have been presented to the House of Parliament and that he is hoping for a speedy approval of these amendments and the subsequent budgetary assistance from the Netherlands.

So let's hope Parliament has a quorum today.

Boasman also said things are not looking good for 2018, and that the country could expect a large deficit. The Prime Minister also pointed out that it was unrealistic to expect a balanced budget due to the effects of the hurricanes on the country.

Well, two more days to go and it will be the end of 2017. It will also be the end of a lot of things for a lot of people.

Prime Minister Boasman also stated during the Wednesday Council of Ministers press briefing that many people within the community are going through a very difficult time and with the year coming to a close in a few days, and a new one about to begin, he appealed to the community to help those individuals by spending time with them during the transition and giving them hope for the new year.

That seems to be sensible and good advice. What better way to open the year than to be together and give each other hope and a sense of purpose in 2018.
