Dear Reader

The Causeway 'bridge to nowhere' takes everyone to everywhere there are traffic jams.

One cannot drive anywhere anymore in St. Maarten/St. Martin without getting stuck in traffic.

It seems that many people are going nowhere special, but ofcourse in their minds no doubt, they are going somewhere special.

In Bermuda, we were told, government alleviated traffic jams by simply implementing a measure that allows cars with even and uneven numbers to be only allowed to be driven on the public roads on a daily alternating basis. So even numbers on Mondays, uneven numbers on Tuesdays, etc.,etc.. At least, that is the idea. We would have to do some research into how this system works in practice in Bermuda.

In any event, we also need a solution for the traffic situation in St. Maarten/St. Martin.

We do not understand how apparently, according to estimates, that each year 10,000 cars are imported into St. Maarten. Do we wreck and write off that many cars yearly here on St. Maarten? And, where do all these cars end up?

Again, another measure implemented in our neighboring island of Anguilla, is that government marks abandoned cars parked alongside the public roads or in neighbourhoods with an 'X', thereby giving the owners time to dispose of the cars properly, else within a certain timeframe the cars will be towed away at the expense of the owner.

In any event, we at StmaartenNews.com welcome ideas, suggestions and proposals for alleviating traffic congestion on St. Maarten/St. Martin.

In the meantime, do enjoy reading our full newsletter today.

Happy readings!
