Thumbs up to PM Leona Marlin-Romeo from PM Mark Rutte

PHILIPSBURG - The visit of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to St. Maarten seems to mark the beginning of a better relationship with the Kingdom. On more than one occasion, Rutte said that he has confidence in Prime Minister Leona Marlin-Romeo and ...

Dear Reader

Is Prime Minister Rutte commending Prime Minister Leona Marlin-Romeo or is he recommending her?

Hilbert Haar asks that question in his opinion piece titled " Stellar reputation".

Today we quote Winston Churchill in regards to the unhealthy state of things here on St. Maarten. Click here to see what we mean.

Don't think we need to waste words on this situation any longer. State Secretary Knops stated that he is committed to remove the dump quickly. Quess what? The kingdom does have an obligation to remove the dump as quickly as possible. It is their responsibility.

Up until now the Kingdom government has passed off the dump situation on St. Maarten as the island government's responsibility. But let's be honest. The St. Maarten government has shown that it is not able to handle that responsibility. The kingdom will have to assume that responsibility - which it rightfully is - and address the issue post haste.

The same goes for the situation at the Pointe Blanche prison. We can't wait for a new government any longer. The kingdom government will have to take action. Hurricane season starts officially on June 1st.

And hurricane preparedness is a priority now.
