Dear Reader
Can the newly launched Caribsky alliance between Winair, Air Antilles and LIAT save Caribbean regional travel?
We will be bringing a full report on this new development in a next edition.
However, during the launching event of CaribSKY that took place yesterday in Guadeloupe, a debate ensued about the airport fees and taxes amounting to 50% of the Caribbean airlines ticket costs and continuously increasing at an alarming rate of 50% on average each time.
We will be making an in-depth analysis of this in a subsequent article as well.
In the meantime, do enjoy reading this edition of our email newsletter

Kaiso Brat leads the way in 2018 Nagico Calypso Eliminations
It was that time of the year again when Calypsonians had the opportunity to launch lyrical attacks on politicians in the manner that suited them. But of the 17 that took to the stage last evening, only 10 have advanced to the finals where they will challenge Alberto Arrindell, aka Fish da Mega Boss for the crown on April 26th.
"They better come better than tonight in the finals" the reigning King who was not required to compete in the eliminations said at the conclusion of the competition.
Those making the final cut is the 10 time Calypso King and 3 time Road March King Clement Richards, stage name
Kaiso Brat who was awarded 255 points for his song entitled 'Drones'. Making a return to the competition after an extended period was the 11 time Calypso King, 7 time Road March King and 7 time Caribbean Road March King Leroy Brooks, aka
King Beau Beau, with a song entitled 'Jam Them' which earned him 247 points.
Occupying the number three slot with a total of 240 points was John Louie Rey, aka
X-Rey whose song was entitled 'Dont Come Back'. At number four and one point behind was Isidore York, aka
Mighty Dow who also returned to the competition with a song entitled "I want To Know.' The 4 time Calypso King was able to demonstrate that he still had what it takes to be competitive.
In the 5th spot with 237 points was
Andrew Richardson, the 2nd generation calypsonian doing a song entitled 'Is Our Fault' . At number six on 235 points was
Rumini Rogers, stage name 'Young Calix, the Protege' doing a song entitled 'Countdown'.
Keith Carty, stage name 'The Repeater' earned 229 points for his song ' St Maarten Will Rise Again'. The lone female in the competition Evelyn Walters aka
Ebony Empress who made the final cut on her debut back in 2016 was able to do it again.
She was the first to perform and her song entitled 'We are survivors' earned her 226 points finishing ahead of
Kaiso Genius on 221 with a song entitled 'Back to the Pools' and
The Wizard on 212 points for his song called 'Ah Vex'.

Preventive searches during Carnival
The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) in cooperation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten, will carry out preventive searches during the 2018 Carnival season.
In accordance with the Firearm Ordinance, at predetermined locations, vehicles, bags and clothing of individuals will be searched for firearms.
This measure is being taken in consideration of the high number of illegal firearms in circulation on the island and past statistics which point out an increase in robberies before and during the Carnival season.
The Public Prosecutors Office Sint Maarten and KPSM are mindful that such a measure will impose on the privacy of residents and visitors. However it is in the interest of the general public and tourist visiting the island to heighten safety and security during the upcoming festive season.
