Dear Reader

With almost 3700 views, our photo reportage about the filthy streets of St. Maarten with sewage water running rampant in the neighborhoods continues to be the topic of the day on our Facebook page.

One of our readers sent us an email about the topic. Here is what she had to say regarding our filthy St. Maarten:

All of us ought to do our part to keep this island, where we all call home, clean. It doesn`t have to take a blind man to see the filth lying around this tiny island; debris still on the side of the road, car wrecks parked all over the place (in front the Nagico building in town) is a perfect example, and the constant running of sewage water on the roads 24/7/365.

Even the Dutch member of parliament. Mr. Pechtold, who was on a working visit here recently, wrote an article in the Daily Herald of Friday, 13th July. Message to country: "Clean up the rubbish." Now if this is not a hint and half, I don`t know anymore what will get our attention that this island is in need of a dire CLEAN UP and CLEAN OUT!!

I`ve just been to Providenciales in Turks and Caicos on vacation, which measures 38 sq. miles, they have also had the brunt of hurricane Irma, but I could not see it, only an eye that is trained to recognize hurricane damage would notice something passed through there. The island is super clean, attracting high end tourist at that.

I will echo the words of Mr. Mike Ferrier: "Come on St. Maarten, we can do better than this."

Don't think we have anything more to add to that. Nuff said!

Have a great day.

Best regards,

Terrance Rey
