Dear Reader
Christopher Emmanuel and Roberto Arrindell, two candidates for the National Alliance during the February 26 elections, failed to submit their donation registration to the Electoral Council by the deadline of March 26.
Emmanuel, the number 2 candidate of the National Alliance, won 571 votes and was elected to parliament. Roberto Arrindell, the party’s number 19 candidate, collected just 20 votes.
Two other candidates, both from Gracita Arrindell’s People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA) completed their registration online with no possibility to make any more adjustments. They failed however to submit the signed register of donations to the Electoral Council.
These candidates are number 4 Roel Haakmat (13 votes) and the party’s number 8 Armando Gumbs, who won 7 votes.
The Electoral Council said in a
press statement
that the four candidates can expect a letter with the request to submit their donation registration without further delay. “Failure to comply will result in an order under penalty,” the council warned.
A fifth candidate who has troubles filing his donation register is Rolando Brison, the number 2 candidate of the United St. Maarten party who was elected to parliament with 278 votes. According to the Electoral Council, he requested an extension “due to unexpected travel.”
A large number of candidates showed up at the Electoral Council empty-handed on the last day for submitting a donation register, asking for help to complete t. While it is not the Electoral Council’s responsibility to complete donation registrations, it assisted these candidates nonetheless.
