Dear Reader

When you don't know, you don't know. But the school children always know.

What school children have been saying for years is now a subject of investigation: the costs of the causeway bridge project over the Simpson Bay lagoon was 10% higher than originally quoted. Also the bond issue used to financed the causeway project is being investigated.

It is remarkable how our government and government-owned companies can get very creative when it comes to finding money for certain projects but when it comes to paying things like the pro bono lawyers for their work, suddenly there is no money. No effort is made to find money to pay these lawyers for the crucial work they do.

In this edition we highlight these issues and more. Like what will become of St. Maarten in a United States of Europe. A valid question if you take a look at what is happening in Statia. At least, the Parliament of Curacao is cognizant of that fact as well.

Our congratulations are going out to Marcel Gumbs on his appointment on the Steering Committee of the World Bank Trust Fund to represent St. Maarten.

We are a strong and vocal advocate of the fact that we need more people of the caliber Marcel Gumbs to represent St. Maarten abroad, not only in The Netherlands, but also in other critical areas vital to St. Maarten's future as a country.
