The ground shook today. The foundation St. Maarten's society is built on is slowly shaking to crumbles with all these tremors caused by integrity breaches.
Incredibly, the latest case regards a son of the soil - even if it is one from the island of St. Eustatius - in our eyes he is still a local and very much one of us.
We will be last to stick our hands in the fire for anyone here on St. Maarten where it pertains to integrity issues, however we feel compelled to monitor this particular case closely as something does not feel right about it. In this day and age, with all the attention corruption, bribery and money laundering is getting from the authorities, who in their right mind would still attempt to commit such a crime, especially someone in a position to know better. We will await the outcome of the investigations and let justice run its course. But we will be watching, watching and reporting.
