Dear Reader
Our hearts go out to those of you that live and have to work in Point Blanche.
GEBE announced earlier this month that as of Thursday the 8th of February trench and road work activities would be taking place at the Yrausquin Boulevard and Buncamper Street starting at the Point Blanche cargo terminal to the Freedom Fighters roundabout near Sundial School.
“The works will be carried out by Windward Roads in collaboration with The Ministry of VROMI, Cable TV, Telem and UTS to install a main water line, sewerage, high tension cables and other utilities." the company's press release stated.
“One lane will be closed off temporarily on sections of the work, leaving the other lane for alternating one directional traffic. Construction activities will continue in the night on narrow sections to reduce traffic disruption."
“Pedestrians will be rerouted between Dock Maarten and Bobby's Marina during the road works on this section."
“Motorists are advised to take into account additional travel time and to pay keen attention and abide by the traffic signs, controllers and lights that will be in place. Motorists should also drive with caution in connection with road crews who will be working in the area. Their safety comes first.”
"GEBE apologizes to motorists, businesses and residents for any inconveniences this may cause." the press release ended at the time.
After more than two weeks, we think that apology has worn out completely. We think GEBE should start giving out bicycles now.
Avoid traffic to Point Blanche, people!
For those that can't, we dedicate Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown" song. See below for the Youtube link.
