Dear Reader
The unions have a right to question the austerity measures to be imposed on civil servants. See the
SXM Daily Report of the press briefing given by the unions below in this newsletter..
Windward Islands Civil Servants Union/Private Sector Union (WICSU/PSU) representative Riegnald Arrindell
wondered whether the cuts would include slashing the “handsome compensation” Ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) “are currently enjoying”.
History has shown that such proposed cost-cutting measures never include the salaries of those proposing the cost-cutting on others' salaries.
But Sir Richard Branson rightfully points out that companies should always take care of the employees first because then they will take good care of the customers. The same goes for government and the civil service. Who are the customers in this case? Exactly! The taxpayers.
It's time ministers and parliamentarians start showing some concern for the taxpayers and their tax monies they so generously pay themselves and stop focusing on finding ways to cut the salaries of those who have to provide the actual services to the taxpayers.
Focus should be on generating more income revenues sources. That will ultimately benefit all, including the tax collector.
Have a good day, taxpaying citizens.
