INTRODUCTION

Motion to conditionally accept financial assistance from the Kingdom Government passed

A motion brought forward tonight in Parliament by MP Grisha Heyliger-Marten (UP) to request the Government of St. Maarten to conditionally accept financial support from the Kingdom Government was carried by 12 members of Parliament voting for and 3 against. The latter three members voting against the motion where MP Sarah Wescot-Williams (UD) and PFP members of Parliament, MPs Melissa Gumbs and Rayheon Peterson.

In motivating her vote, MP Heyliger-Marten stated that many considered her platform of tackling a review of the Kingdom Charter to be 'too technical' for the masses to understand and therefore, she will be going on the various media platforms the coming week to breakdown her stance on reviewing the Kingdom Charter, especially in light of the present motion she has brought forward and has found support by her colleagues in Parliament, especially from MP Christophe Emmanuel, who stated in his motivation that he is against any salary cuts of civil servants, but will support the motion simply because MP Heyliger-Marten asked him for his support.
