The Bugle Calls!
Greetings!
Bob Bugle-B-1001

A warm welcome to everyone to the 3rd edition of "Bugle Calls". If you're like me, you live in e-mail. Even if you're not sending/receiving 100+ e-mail messages on an average business day, for many people the primary means of communicating (both for work and personal) is electronic.

Our August issue therefore focuses on "E-Mail...What is it good for?"  Understanding the pros and cons (and proper etiquette) of E-Mail usage is critical in today's business environment if we're to maximize our productivity and represent ourselves and our companies/organizations in a positive and professional manner. That being said, we also need to think about whether or not e-mail is the most appropriate tool for communicating at any given time. Our challenge in being effective communicators is using the right tool to convey the appropriate message at the appropriate time. Depending on circumstances and the nature of the topic, there are often better, more effective ways of communicating with someone than via e-mail.

Even if you're not sending/receiving 100+ e-mail messages on an average business day, for many people the primary means of communicating (both for work and personal) is probably electronic as opposed to person-to-person. According to Hans Vestberg, President and CEO of Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications company, "Mobile data surpassed voice on a global basis during December of 2009. This is a significant milestone with some 400 million mobile broadband subscriptions (i.e. smart phone users) generating more data traffic than the voice traffic from the total 4.6 billion mobile subscriptions around the world."
