A Journey Through Services:

Behavioral Supports

Tommy

Tommy is a 24-year-old who finds joy in boating, listening to music, and spending time outdoors. These moments help him feel at peace, but his journey hasn’t been without challenges. At times, he’s struggled with binge eating, sticking to self-care routines, and managing unexpected changes in his day. For a while, he needed help during meals, reminders for hygiene, and support getting dressed. When things didn’t go as planned, frustration would sometimes lead to emotional outbursts, leaving him and his family feeling stuck.

Wanting to help him build independence, Tommy’s family connected with a behaviorist who introduced visual schedules and positive reinforcement to give his days more structure and predictability. With these tools, Tommy has made incredible progress. The iPad now helps him express his needs more clearly, reducing the frustration he once felt. He’s also becoming more comfortable in social situations and enjoying activities with friends. His mom proudly says, “He’s thriving in social situations and feels more confident.”

Tommy’s Support Coordinator plays a key role, working closely with the family and behaviorist to ensure his behavior plan grows with him. Together, they make adjustments as needed to support Tommy’s progress toward greater independence and prepare him for opportunities, including potential employment. With the right support, Tommy is not only overcoming challenges but thriving—finding joy in what he loves, deepening connections, and building a future full of new possibilities.

Alex

Alex is a creative and curious 24-year-old who loves building intricate structures with Legos and crafting tiny pieces of furniture. These hands-on projects give him a sense of accomplishment and calm, allowing him to immerse himself in something he enjoys. But life hasn’t always been easy for Alex. At times, he’s found it really hard to express what he’s feeling, and when things became too overwhelming, frustration would bubble over. In those moments, not knowing how to ask for help, Alex sometimes turned to biting or hitting, which left him and his family feeling frustrated and unsure of how to move forward. That’s when a behaviorist stepped in with a plan centered around positive reinforcement—a way to recognize and reward the moments when Alex made small but important strides. The Support Coordinator, working closely with the behaviorist and Alex’s family, made sure the plan was shaped around what matters most to Alex and adjusted along the way to keep pace with his growth. The impact has been noticeable. With the right support, Alex has started to build new ways to handle his emotions. He’s learning how to pause and communicate what he needs before frustration takes over. His mom shared, “He can move on from difficult moments easier than before,” a shift that has been a huge relief for everyone. The biting and hitting are happening far less often now, and Alex seems more at ease, able to navigate challenges that once felt impossible. His Support Coordinator stays in close contact with the family and behaviorist to ensure Alex’s plan keeps evolving with him, making tweaks as he continues to grow. These small, steady steps forward are helping Alex move closer to his goals—being more independent, participating in community activities, and feeling more connected to the people around him. And just like the Lego sets he loves building piece by piece, Alex is creating a future for himself, one thoughtful step at a time.
