As I sit in the pre-dawn darkness, sipping my coffee, my cat Harvey Wallbanger curled up in my lap, I find myself listening for the message I know is coming.
We’ve just completed our first session of Crafting Your Creative Life, and I’ve noticed something interesting: vision board gatherings are suddenly popping up everywhere. That tells me something important - we can still dream.
One of my attendees and I were talking about January. While it’s considered the beginning of the year on our current calendar, historically, in the Gregorian calendar, the new year once began in March. Strange, right? But when you really think about it, it makes perfect sense.
Winter is a season of reflection. Following the spirit of Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), this is a time to go inward—to slow down, reflect, and gather our resources. It’s what nature does.
And then…
Spring. Growth. Becoming.
Yes, we can still start in January—but the deeper invitation of this season is rest. Rest as we gently gather ourselves for what’s to come.
So be sure to continue resting, reflecting, and recharging as you enter your New Year. Spring will arrive soon enough - and when it does, you’ll be ready.
Enjoy it all.
