Embrace the Summertime

"Season of Giving"!

To the “village” that surrounds Rainbow Village…

For some people, the Season of Giving lives in their hearts year-round. It extends far beyond binge-watching favorite holiday movies, listening to Christmas carols on repeat, donning their favorite pair of Christmas PJs, and curling up with a cup of cocoa on a random Tuesday. Inspired by the profound reminder of God’s greatest gift—love, hope, and salvation through Jesus Christ, they embrace every opportunity to give of their time, talent, and treasure – no matter the date on the calendar. That reminder calls them to refocus their hearts on what truly matters as they strive to make a positive impact on the lives of others. To me, those “Christmas people” are the best kind of people.

If you don’t currently consider yourself one of those “Christmas people,” may you gain a little inspiration from them as July 25 approaches. Christmas in July often serves as Summer’s nod to the Season of Giving, with nonprofits like Rainbow Village seeing a spike in donations and volunteerism. The blog below highlights several ways to give beyond a financial contribution – from packing snacks for our Academy Summer Campers to volunteering to prep apartments for incoming families who are overcoming the trauma of being unhoused.

If the holiday season is the time you typically give back to Rainbow Village or other nonprofit organizations in and around our community, please consider spreading your spirit of giving to other times of the year – whether monthly, quarterly, or biannually. According to Donorbox.org, roughly 30% of annual donations occur in December, with November’s Giving Tuesday coming in as a close second. Nonprofits typically experience a dip in donations during the summer months. While we genuinely appreciate every penny you donate to our organization and every act of kindness you show to the families we serve every holiday season, it’s important to note that our expenses are a monthly obligation. Less than 10% of our funding comes from local government resources, while 90% is privately secured from individual donors, corporations, churches, and foundations.

If you feel inspired to celebrate Christmas in July with a spirit of giving, please hit the DONATE button below or visit our blog to learn other ways to make a meaningful impact on the families who call Rainbow Village “home.” May you celebrate the magic of Christmas in July with joy in your heart and loved ones by your side!

Peace and blessings ~

Eight Ways to Celebrate the Season of Giving Year-Round with Rainbow Village

Whether you’re motivated by the spirit of Thanksgiving, the joy of giving during the holidays, a “Christmas in July”-inspired desire to be philanthropic, or just some random Tuesday urge to be benevolent, charity has no specific time of year. The Season of Giving can live in your heart year-round. If you believe in and embrace that concept, nonprofits that rely on the kindness of individuals just like you will be genuinely grateful to you for bucking the “year-end charity” trend.

In the case of Rainbow Village, families experiencing homelessness don’t do so according to any calendar. It’s a 365-day-a-year crisis, as proven by our consistently full capacity and waiting list for transitional housing and access to transformational programming. Like most for-profit businesses, our nonprofit has bills and salaries to pay, as well as obligations to the families we serve. Those bills come due every month, not just during the holiday season when charitable giving spikes. If you’re seeking ways to show kindness and compassion – regardless of the date on the calendar, Rainbow Village offers eight ways for you to embrace The Season of Giving year-round…

  1. Make an Online Donationone of the easiest ways to make an impact on Rainbow Village is to make an online donation – either to our general fund or to our “Building Homes. Building Hope.” Capital Campaign, which is funding our expansion from 30 to 66 apartments – more than doubling our capacity. In addition to cash donations, we also gratefully accept the gift of stock and legacy gifts that are part of your own estate planning or honor a loved one.
  2. Become a Monthly DonorOur residents need help 365 days a year to rebuild their lives after experiencing the trauma associated with homelessness. A recurring donation provides a steady, dependable source of income to transform lives – bringing Help, Hope, Housing, and Healing to families in need. It also allows Rainbow Village to improve long-range planning and decision-making while protecting our organization during times of uncertainty, ensuring we can continue to provide support no matter what.
