Dear St. Paul’s family,
As with music, responding to life’s seasons of change requires listening, paying attention to timing and surrendering self to a larger plan. I have been at St. Paul’s for 13 years, beginning as your Associate Organist and Choir Director, and then taking on the directorship 11 years ago, in 2015. Although I trust deeply in the process of being called elsewhere, my heart is bittersweet in sharing with you that I have accepted a call to become the Organist and Director of Music at the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, beginning on December 7, 2026. My last Sunday at St. Paul's will be November 29 for Advent Lessons & Carols. I will stop office hours on November 12 but continue to lead rehearsals and services through the end of the month.
Unexpected opportunity brought my family and me to Indianapolis in 2013, and it is certainly an unexpected opportunity to begin a new season of life in another city. Yet I am clear that God’s voice has been steadily at work long before I heard it. I am profoundly grateful to the St. Paul’s community who so warmly welcomed us here and sustained us; to the choir for its unflagging support and dedication to its ministry; to the clergy and staff whom I’m proud to call colleagues; and to the company of saints and angels who are no longer with us but whose presence is still felt in spirit. The greatest privilege of my life has been helping this community raise and teach our young parishioners (including my own child) in thousands of small ways that add up to being a miraculous, affirming and joyful foundation for faithful living. As these young people grow up, they are practicing Resurrection in quiet ways every day.
I have every confidence in the next chapter for St. Paul’s, and at the center of that energy is our new Rector, the Rev. Loren Lasch. Her strength and faithfulness are so evident to me, and I cannot help but rejoice in the journey ahead and in whomever is called to serve as your next Organist & Director of Music. The essence of St. Paul’s is forever woven into the fibers of my being, and I carry you in my heart each day as I begin my new journey and you begin yours. Thank you for your warm embrace and your prayers during this transition.
Gratefully,
