Protecting Land and Water
NYSDEC's Trees for Tribs Program aims to create or improve riparian buffers that decrease erosion, reduce flooding damage, improve wildlife and stream habitat, and protect water quality.
Through the Buffer in a Bag Program, qualifying private and public landowners may apply for a free bag of 25 tree and shrub seedlings for planting near streams, rivers, or lakes to help stabilize banks, protect water quality, combat climate change, and improve wildlife habitat.
Applications are due April 7, 2023. Learn more.

Adirondack Diversity Initiative | |
Emerging Stewards Claiming Space Program
ADI, Inclusive Woods & Us, and SUNY ESF recently welcomed 14 Rochester, NY high school students to the Adirondacks to spend a weekend at the 15,000-acre SUNY ESF Newcomb campus.
Students enjoyed a variety of activities including snowshoeing, winter ecology, night hikes, and discussions of environmental and social justice issues, pre-Civil War and human rights activities in the Adirondacks, and the local Timbuctoo settlement.

Equity in Conservation and Recreation
The NextGen Committee of the Lake George Land Conservancy will host a conversation and Q&A around inequities in access and enjoyment in and around the Adirondacks. Panelists from ADI — including new director Tiffany Rea-Fisher — will discuss issues in the Park, how we can ensure benefits of land conservation are shared with all, and how we can work towards a safer park.
