High school boys’ tryouts report📋

More than 150 players came out for our U16 to U19 boys’ tryouts and U15 EA ID sessions. Thanks to all the players who showed up and gave it their all! The Club has formed U19, U17 and U16 EA teams, alongside three WPL (Green/White) teams.

There may be additional roster space on certain teams. If you have friends or classmates who weren’t able to make it to our tryouts but may be interested in playing for ECFC, encourage them to contact John Hamel or James Ritchie.

Big thanks as well to Club parents who volunteered at tryouts — setting up tables, checking in players, washing pinnies and taking photos. Thank you! Didn’t get the chance to volunteer? Don’t worry, the Club will need lots of hands to make our larger spring tryouts a success for players and coaches. Details to come, and thank you in advance!

More tryouts coming up!

Club tryouts for our U11 to U14 teams, U15 boys’ teams, and U16 to U19 girls’ teams are around the corner. Tryouts will take place the weeks of April 27–May 1 and May 4–8. We are currently finalizing details and aiming to post the schedule and registration link by mid-March. Sessions will include tryouts for U15, U14 and U13 boys’ EA teams.

New age groups = big adjustment

With our first batch of tryouts for next season in the books, we can confirm: The age-group switch is confusing, and it’s definitely a big adjustment! To recap, national youth soccer governing bodies have agreed to change the way age groups are formed, from calendar year to (roughly) school year.

Check out the 2026–27 age group chart (with handy FAQ!) to see where your player will land for next season.

Elite Academy (EA) explained

Have you been hearing the letters “EA” and thought to yourself... do I need to know what that is? (There’s only so much parental brain space, and tough decisions must be made, right?) Read about Emerald City’s EA program and head to our EA FAQ if you have questions about the program or tryouts.

New uniform kits this year

ECFC players purchase new uniform kits every other year, and 2026 is a new-kit year! This uniform kit, to be revealed soon, will be in use for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 seasons.

The ECFC uniform kit includes two game jerseys, one practice jersey, one pair of shorts, two pairs of socks, a training jacket, and — new this cycle — a rain jacket. The supplier of our Adidas uniform kit is Soccer.com.

Congrats, Pete Fewing!

Emerald City salutes longtime friend of the Club and local soccer legend Peter Fewing on his induction into the Seattle University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Fewing was head coach of SU men’s soccer 1998–2005 and 2012–2022. Legions of Seattle soccer kids know Pete and his family through Peter Fewing Soccer Camps.

Our own John Hamel shared some words at the ceremony’s after-party!
