Emerald Showcase: All That Breathes

Shaunak Sen, 94 min, India, 2022

NOV 4 | 7:30 PM | AMC Seattle #11

Join us for the in-person film screening of All That Breathes with an exclusive Q&A Session with Tasveer Alum Filmmaker Shaunak Sen! All That Breathes is the winner of Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema Documentary at Sundance Festival 2022 and L'Oeil D'or Prize for Best Documentary at Cannes Festival 2022.

In one of the world’s most populated cities, two brothers — Nadeem and Saud — devote their lives to the quixotic effort of protecting the black kite, a majestic bird of prey essential to the ecosystem of New Delhi that has been falling from the sky at alarming rates. Amid environmental toxicity and social unrest, the ‘kite brothers’ spend day and night caring for the creatures in their makeshift avian basement hospital. Director Shaunak Sen (Cities of Sleep) explores the connection between the kites and the Muslim brothers who help them return to the skies, offering a mesmerizing chronicle of inter-species coexistence.

Q&A with the Four Samosas team last night!

On stage from left: Jamal Siddiqui, Ravi Kapoor, Sonal Shah, Nirvan Patnaik, Sharmita Bhattacharya

We were ecstatic to see the community come out to celebrate the opening night and chat with the Four Samosas team last night! After some lip-smacking beer and chaat, everyone marched to SIFF Egyptian last night to the bhangra beats of the dhol-waala. We couldn't have asked for a more exciting Opening Night for our grandest TSAFF yet!

The Four Samosas screening left the audience feeling so amused and proud! The cast and filmmaker were as hilarious in the Q&A as the film itself. The audience was curious about how the cast manages to break South Asian stereotypes in the industry while still making a living. Venk Potula gave a heart-warming response, "I make sure I show up authentically and vulnerably to play the roles..", and Sharmita Bhattacharya added how she is inspired by other South Asian actors who add complexity and layers to their characters and how it is critical to have filmmakers who create a positive and supportive environment for the cast to add depth to their characters.
