The most recent emergency situation due to severe weather is a prime example of the importance of emergency communication equipment for our Public Safety officers. With that in mind, please read below how the Bent Tree Foundation is seeking to assist our first responders.
In May 2022 the Bent Tree Foundation raised funds to purchase lifesaving equipment for Bent Tree Public Safety and the Bent Tree Fire Department. Thanks to generous donors we were able to purchase several pieces of equipment that have proven to be extremely beneficial. Having critical equipment on hand not only helps our first responders more efficiently do their job, it in turn benefits all Bent Tree residents. With this in mind, the Bent Tree Foundation is now seeking donations to purchase sorely needed quality communication equipment for our first responders.
Public Safety currently has three newer Motorola radios that function properly. All other radios are outdated, extremely worn out and have functional issues. The goal is to acquire nine new Motorola Two-Way radios to completely outfit all emergency response personnel with assigned radios. This year, Public Safety has responded to multiple emergencies that required a response from all available personnel, including those off-duty. Situations like this leave some responders without a radio and unable to communicate reliably and efficiently with other responders during emergency operations. Emergency situations serious enough to require a response from off-duty officers are also worthy of a response without unnecessary delays. Officers with assigned radios can respond directly to the scene for immediate action without having to stop at the gate to see if a radio is available.
The radios needed would match the three Motorola portable radios that were purchased in 2021. They have proven to be very effective and have the capability to switch frequencies from UHF to VHF. It is very important to remain compatible and be able to communicate with other local agencies for the foreseeable future. The Motorola Two-Way Radios cost $994 each and include all the necessary accessories (18 hour battery, rapid charger, antenna, belt clip and shoulder mic). The programing of all the radios is included in the price. They also have a five-year warranty. The total cost for the nine new radios is $9,588 (tax and shipping included).
