The Emergency Communications Nurse System (ECNS) is now live and is currently taking calls through CONFIRE.
In November 2020, the Board of Directors approved a contract with MCP Holdings Inc. to complete and implement an Emergency Communications Nurse System to be run through CONFIRE. This project began as the result of a partnership between SBCOG, four emergency dispatch centers, County fire, city fire chiefs, Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA), public and private hospitals, and healthcare providers.
The goal when the project began in October was to provide options for additional means of addressing 9-1-1 calls that may not be categorized as “emergencies.” However, due to COVID-19, the study morphed into the implementation of a program that would help dispatch centers address calls that are considered “non-emergency”. Additionally, by providing an alternative means of assessing calls through the dispatch phase, the entire Emergency Medical Dispatch System would benefit through the “freeing up of ER bed space.”
