Strength in Times of Crisis

A nationwide webinar with the IDF Home Front Command for Israel Elwyn service recipients.

As this very challenging period in Israel continues, we wanted to share an update on how Israel Elwyn is adapting its services and how the individuals we support are managing the crisis.

Israel Elwyn has continued its role as an essential service throughout this conflict. Across the country, our teams continue to adapt our services to ensure safety, stability, and all necessary supports for the individuals with disabilities and families we serve.

In the first days of the crisis, services shifted rapidly to emergency and remote support. Since then, several day programs have gradually resumed in-person operations where conditions allow, while many others continue remotely through regular check-ins, home visits when possible, online activities, and close support for service recipients in our job placement program who attend daily their workplaces, most of which are considered essential jobs. The reality remains painful and uncertain, but our commitment remains steady.

24/7 support and meaningful daily activities across our community living programs.

Israel Elwyn's Emergency Fund Remains Open

Our emergency fund remains open to help address operational needs, including safety equipment, increased staffing hours, and other urgent necessities.

“Scared?”“Call a friend!”

While some Early Intervention Programs have partially resumed in person, our teams continue supporting young children and their families who are staying at home. A newly developed YouTube playlist with virtual activities and story time sessions for toddlers is now available in Hebrew and Arabic. One parent shared: “There are no words. Thank you for being here in moments like these. You give us strength.”

Thanks to ongoing Zoom sessions with our partner ETTA in Los Angeles, participants continue to support one another across the world. During a recent session, they spoke about what to do when they felt scared. One ETTA participant responded: “You can call a friend.” Together, they made matzah, sang songs, and shared virtual hugs in a particularly touching evening for all involved.

Our job placement teams remain in close daily contact, supporting the wellbeing of supported employees and helping them continue working safely. Elhanan, pictured here, continues going to work each day in a kitchen with commitment and endless energy, even during this period. Throughout, we ensure that safety procedures, including access to shelters and updated public safety guidelines, are clearly understood and followed.

We appreciate the solidarity of our partners and friends around the world. As Passover approaches, we wish all those who celebrate a safe and peaceful holiday. May we all know calmer days ahead.
