Shelf stable supplies for Meals on Wheels clients
Social distancing staff meeting
We miss you!
Dear Generations Participants and Friends,

We miss you! As you are almost certainly already aware (because you miss us too), Generations of Indian Valley is currently closed. We will be closed through at least Thursday, April 30, 2020 in order to reduce the spread of the novel corona virus COVID-19. Due to the Governor's most recent stay at home order, we are no longer offering a drive-through take-out meal program.

Our fantastic staff, members of our Board of Directors, and employees from Montgomery County, along with a few dedicated volunteers have been busy reporting to our Center several days per week. We are working with the essential task of providing food to our home-bound seniors. Meals on Wheels clients in the North Penn and Indian Valley areas currently receive only one delivery per week on Monday. The delivery includes 5 frozen meals from the previous week’s menu, 4 shelf-stable meals, 1 cold meal, and additional fruits and snacks.

If you were signed up for a meal, seminar, or special program that was to take place onsite at Generations between now and April 30, please consider it cancelled. When we have reopening information, we will let you know as soon as possible. If you were signed up for a trip, and if we have information about cancellation/reimbursement, you may be receiving a call from us.

Also, see below for a compiled list of links to helpful articles and resources about everything from tax preparation alternatives to food resources and the importance of social distancing.

We are all in this together. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will follow guidance from public health officials and government agencies, so we can support our Participants, our Meals on Wheels Clients, and our community as needed. If you would like to share other information or links that have been particularly helpful to you during this emergency situation, please reply here and we'll try to include them in our next communication.
Social Distance is Especially Important for Older Adults
Older adults and people who have underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more severe complications from COVID-19 (cdc.gov). The importance of social distancing, especially for those who fall into the above category, cannot be stressed enough. On April 5, 2020 The Montgomery County Office of Public Health (OPH) reported that the countywide total is 989 cases, and that 26 of the 27 deaths in the county were of people between the ages of 60-100+. “This underscores the need to protect the most vulnerable as well as ourselves by staying at home,” said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

Even if you feel well and are asymptomatic, you should still stay home and stay safe. "Staying at home doesn’t mean making a daily stop at the grocery store because you need to get out of the house. Staying at home means you must stay at home," said PA Governor Tom Wolf referring to his April 1, 2020 stay at home order. Individuals may leave their residence only to perform certain life sustaining activities.

How You Can Help

We so greatly appreciate all of the offers from community members and our own Participants to help us.

One of the best ways you can help us is to fill out your census form. With just a 5% undercount in 2020, we could lose $72,336,780 annually in funding for Montgomery County schools, infrastructure, Medicaid, SNAP, housing choice vouchers, head start, senior programs (like Generations), and more! Click here for more US Census response information.

At this time, monetary donations to help us maximize our efforts for our Meals on Wheels clients are the best way to help. To donate by mail, send your check payable to Generations, with "Meals on Wheels" in the memo, to us at 259 N. Second St., Souderton, PA 18964. To donate online via paypal, click on the button below.
If you haven't already "friended us" on Facebook, now would be a great time to do it, since we're posting updates and helpful information there each week. Click on the link to our Facebook page below!
