Women's History Month

In March, we honor and celebrate the vital role of women in American history.

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture, and society and has been observed annually during March in the United States since 1987. Women’s History Month is celebrated during the entire month of March.

The National Women’s History Alliance, which spearheaded the movement for March being declared National Women’s History Month, has announced the women’s history theme for 2025, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations."

Ramadan

Ramadan began on Friday, February 28th, and is expected to end on the evening of Sunday, March 30th. 

People who practice the Islamic faith believe that Ramadan is meant to further strengthen their relationship with God.

Ramadan is regarded as a holy month designated for fasting and prayer, asking for forgiveness, and spending time with loved ones/Iftar (fast-breaking evening meal).

From December 2024 to February 2025, 211 San Diego experienced a 30% increase in immigration-related Needs. To address these emerging needs in our community, 211 is expanding and proactively seeking new resources to add to the resources database and Calendar of Events.

Ways you can support:

• Ensure your resources are listed and updated in the 211/CIE San Diego Resource Database
• Use the resource database to refer client to services in the community
• List Your Community Events or Refer clients to listed Community Event
• Attend community events to learn more about how you can support your clients and community

The last day to The last day to file a federal income tax return is Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

211 San Diego can educate clients about potential tax credits, including CalEITC, EITC, and YCT, while screening callers for eligibility for free tax preparation appointments through VITA tax sites.

Send a direct referral to this service:

2. Review client record for to ensure the client meets eligibility criteria.
3. Launch Find Referral from the client record and enter “2-1-1 VITA & CalEITC Navigation” in search bar.

We will soon invite you to participate in a survey aimed at evaluating the impact of the Community Information Exchange (CIE) on your organization and the larger community. This survey seeks to collect valuable insights about how the CIE has helped your organization achieve its goals and contributed to the overall well-being of our community members.

New immigration policies, as well as potential budget cuts to Medicaid, deeply affect community-based workforces, leaving many unsure how to best navigate these changes. In an upcoming webinar presented by HECC’s Community-Based Workforce Alliance, experts will take a deep dive into the latest policy impacts on this crucial workforce, sharing insights and guidance from national and local perspectives.

This past month, we had the honor of visiting Operation HOPE of North County and the San Diego Rescue Mission's South County Lighthouse.

During our visit, we toured their beautiful facilities and had the opportunity to meet some of the residents.

Operation HOPE of North County is a temporary shelter for unhoused single women and families with children, located in Vista. Their incredible team, including Esperanza Zapico, Evelyn Flores, and Lina Soto-Thomas, provided us with valuable insights about their operations, including their food pantry and clothing boutique for residents. They have case managers onsite who are ready to support residents with housing navigation services to help families transition to permanent housing.

The South County Lighthouse is an emergency shelter for unhoused single men, women, and families with children in National City. Their amazing team, Ricky Feria, Mario Montoya, and Hayley Looney, guided us on a thorough tour of their renovated facility, which includes dormitories, showers, laundry facilities, and wrap-around services. They have advocates onsite providing support and options for rehabilitation and stable housing.

Both facilities create a warm and welcoming environment, which we truly felt during our visit. We are grateful for partners like you!
