BETA GAMMA SIGMA USF CHAPTER ACCEPTS BUSINESS STUDENTS 
Forty-one Muma College of Business students were accepted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Delta of Florida chapter at USF this spring.  Beta Gamma Sigma members are the top 10 percent of undergraduate students, the top 20 percent of graduate students and all doctoral candidates that have successfully defended their dissertation at an AACSB accredited business school.  
FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
* Jennifer Cainas, an instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was the recipient of the Spring 2020 Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award presented to USF accounting faculty. Cainas is also the Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisor.

* Matt Mullarkey, an instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, recently made a presentation to the  Emergence Policy Group (EPG Hillsborough County), discussing ways to  take a data-driven approach to re-opening the Tampa Bay region and getting back to work safely in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis .

* Thomas Smith, an assistant accounting professor,  won the "best research paper award" at the American Accounting Association's Accounting Information Systems Midyear Meeting.

* Don Berndt, an associate professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, penned a paper that was used as a chapter for a retrospective book titled "Summer of Simulation: 50 years of Seminal Computer Simulation Research."

* Lisa Gaynor, an associate professor with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has been appointed to serve on the Contemporary Accounting Research Editorial Board. Her term begins this month. Contemporary Accounting Research is considered an elite accounting journal.

* Heather LIvely, an accounting instructor, had her second three-year CBIZ-MHM Teaching Fellowship renewed.



ALUMNI NOTES

* Tina P. Johnson  ('80, Accounting) received the USF Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award. She joined Publix Super Markets in 1986 as a tax manager and went on to serve as senior vice president of the grocery retailer. Today, she's an adviser to the CEO and treasurer for Publix Super Market Charities.

* Arnie Bellini ('82, MBA) was the recipient of the USF Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award. He is the cofounder and former CEO of ConnectWise, a business that over four decades created technology and business platforms that revolutionized IT support and managed services. In 2019, ConnectWise sold for $1.4 billion.

* Mike Griffin ('03, Marketing) received the Donald A. Gifford Service award from the USF Alumni Association. He is a charter member of the USF Board of Trustees and serves as senior vice president of Savills. Griffin also is a recent chair of USF's Consolidation Planning Task Force and a past chair of the USF Alumni Association.

* Rogan Donelly ('18, Executive MBA) was the recipient of a USF Alumni Association's Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Donelly, president of Tervis Tumbler, will be recognized along with other award winners at a reception in November.
* Alexa Mitsuda ('15, Finance) has been promoted to business manager at the Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee. She previously worked as an account specialist with Florida State University.

* Taylor Torres ('20, Marketing) has taken a job with KnowBe4 as a regional account manager. She is a 2020 honoree of the 25 Under 25 program.

* Nicole Deautriell ('20, Accounting), Kimberly Gomez ('20, Accounting), Renata Gomes Martins ('20 Global Business) and Lauren Madera ('20, Marketing) were recognized at the May 2020 USF commencement ceremony as King O'Neal Scholars from the Muma College of Business. They finished their college careers with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. 


*  Most of the events planned and announced between now and the foreseeable future have been canceled or postponed because of the threat of spreading COVID-19. Check with venues and event organizers for more information. Among the events canceled: the Muma College of Business Teaching Symposium, the Conversation with a CEO series, the Sport and Entertainment Analytics Conference, events being held in observance of the Florida SBDC at USF and several others including the spring commencement ceremonies. With regard to events hosted by the Muma College of Business, those who were invited and registered to attend most likely have been notified of the cancellations. Watch for emails from the college and updates in the newsletter about upcoming events.
