*Due to an uptick in Covid infections, we have updated our plans to honor Rabbi Memis-Foler*
Services will now begin at 6:30 pm and take place in the Sanctuary and on LiveControl. We will then move outside at 8:00 pm for some refreshments and to express our gratitude to Rabbi Memis-Foler. We invite you to attend the part(s) of the celebration that feel most comfortable to you.
Guest D'var Torah: Rabbi Mary Zamore

8:00 pm: Outdoor Sweet Treats and Tribute Honoring Rabbi Memis-Foler
Show your appreciation of Rabbi Amy Memis-Foler during services and after the service, outdoors, for Sweet Treats and Tributes held in her honor. In addition to a song from The Players, the service will include a D'var Torah offered by Rabbi Memis-Foler’s dear friend and colleague, Rabbi Mary Zamore, Executive Director of the Women’s Rabbinic Network.
As we prepare to say goodbye to Rabbi Memis-Foler and wish her well on her new adventures in New Jersey, we are creating a scrapbook of memories for her. If you have photos or would like to compose a short paragraph, please send them along to Helayne Levin. All submissions must be received by Friday, May 27. No late entries please. Thanks!
The evening will be sponsored, in part, by The Rabbi Karl and Eve Weiner Fund.

Gail Doeff and "The Lunch Squad"
Before Covid I was a regular volunteer at Connections for the Homeless, where I worked as a receptionist and greeter. Once the pandemic hit and many Connections clients were moved to area hotels, I knew I could put my cooking skills to good use (I am a trained pastry chef). I recruited a volunteer crew and started a project cooking and delivering 60 hot lunches twice a week.

The original Lunch Squad quartet
A year and a half later "The Lunch Squad" is still going strong cooking in a local church kitchen for residents of the Margarita Inn. Some favorite meals include Greek chicken, taco bowls, homemade macaroni and cheese, "breakfast for lunch," hearty soups and chili as well as an array of homemade breads and baked goods. We always include a salad or fresh fruit.
I'm not sure how I would have survived the past 18 months without the Lunch Squad. The project has allowed me to nurture my community through food (I am a Jewish mother after all!) while also creating a wonderful group of devoted volunteer friends, many of whom were strangers when this journey began. Margaret Mead's famous quote has new meaning to me: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only things that ever has."
