High Holy Day Food Drive for the Ark

Yom Kippur, October 5 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sunday, October 9 from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Now more than ever, it is important to support the ARK, a local Jewish agency, which serves more than 4,000 people a year by providing support, shelter, and food through its pantry. Synagogue High Holy Day Food Drives provide the Ark with enough food to last through the winter. Drop off your donation in the Beth Emet parking lot on Yom Kippur, October 5 or Sunday, October 9. Volunteers Still Needed! Contact Bekki Kaplan.

Support Anya and Teo's Gemilut Chasadim Project

Hello from Anya and Teo Siegel-Acevedo, soon-to-be 13-year olds! We would love it if you would consider a donation to our Gemilut Chasadim project or join us at an event we are organizing: We are raising money for post-abortion care packages, which Planned Parenthood of Illinois will distribute to their clinics. We invite you and your family to join us in the Crown Room on Sunday, October 23 (12:30-2:30 pm) to put the care packages together. For more information or to donate, click here.

Looking for Shabbat Connections Cooks/Drivers

Would you like to share your delicious cooking with others? Are you better behind the wheel? Every Friday, one volunteer for Shabbat Connections cooks, and another delivers a home-cooked meal to someone in our Beth Emet family who may need support in times of need or transition. Whether you would like to regularly participate or lend a hand once or twice a year, help perform this mitzvah. Contact Kathy Kaberon.

Congregational Announcements

Updated COVID Policies starting October 7

Take note of the recent update regarding current health protocols. Given that the High Holy Day services will have many people in attendance, well-fitting masks will be required for all services and study inside the building for ages two and older. We are grateful for the flexibility which enables us to bring more of our community back together in person.

Fiddler on the Roof - A Sneak Preview at our Adult Education Programming and an Opportunity at the Lyric Opera House

In November, Dr. Amanda Stein will be presenting a class on Fiddler on the Roof. It so happens that the Lyric Opera is running this show through October 7. Plan with a friend, buy a ticket, and mark your calendar for a presentation and discussion on Thursday evening November 3. Full details here.
