May 2019 Edition
Pastor’s Ponderings
Most days when I drive to church, part of the way I take surface streets that are lined with trees. Lately, the trees that have been bare for the past few months have become alive with new leaves and bright blooms. One tree in particular has caught my attention. Most of the tree has black, barren branches. But one branch is covered with the most spectacular white flowers. This is Easter to me, the presence of life and joy amid the brokenness and death of the world. We are Easter people, and even when we are in our darkest moments, the promise of new life brings us hope and comfort. The forgiveness that is offered to us through Jesus Christ washes us clean of all our sins. That is what resurrection is all about: 2 nd and 3 rd and 4 th chances, because by ourselves we can never get it right. This is the good news of Easter: that we can start anew each day, confident in God’s love for us. Shouldn’t we be telling others about this good news? Invite a friend or a neighbor to church with you soon, because this good news is meant to be shared with the whole world! He is risen, He is risen indeed, Alleluia!

In His grip,
Pr Tricia
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
Just a note: I am excited about attending the Festival of Homiletics in Minneapolis, MN the week of May 12-17! This is a preaching conference, and I will have the opportunity to listen to some of the best preachers in the United States. I have attended this conference once before, and the experience was both exhilarating and pretty humbling! I am so grateful to have this opportunity for continuing education to hone my preaching skills.

Reaching Out
Sound System Replacement Update
Emmanuel’s church council approved the purchase of a new Sound System at the April 9 council meeting. The church has contracted with Audio Visual Specialists located in the Verde Valley. (A point of interest: AVS designed and installed the original sound system when Emmanuel was built.) The custom equipment has been ordered is currently being fabricated.

The church council wishes to thank Paul Berry for all the volunteer hours that were put in to assure that Emmanuel has the best possible system at the best price!
Furnace Update
The new custom sanctuary furnace has been ordered and Keith Namock of our Building & Property Ministry has informed us that installation of the furnace is underway and we're already feeling cool air.

The church council wishes to thank Keith Namock for all the volunteer hours that were put in to assure that Emmanuel has the best possible furnace at the best price!
From the ELCA
Vision for Mission transition
The name of the ELCA Vision for Mission program is changing. As we near the end of Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA, we have an opportunity to invite even more ELCA members to support ministries of the church through undesignated giving opportunities.

Going forward, you can support the church in the same way you did through the ELCA Vision for Mission program by giving to the ELCA “where needed most” at , or by making checks payable to “ELCA” and including “where needed most” on the memo line.
