Attempt selection:

When you weigh in, you’ll be ask the weight for your first attempts (only) for each movement on your lifter card in KG. The referee will document these on your lifters card along with your bodyweight. There will be conversion charts all over outside the weigh in room for your use. Do not use your phone or other program to get your KG. You will not be allowed to enter the weigh in area unless you have your attempt ready.

Choose your first attempts wisely. If you don’t make your attempt, you CANNOT GO DOWN in weight. A good rule of thumb for an opener is a weight you can do in the gym for a good solid 3 reps with all the appropriate commands. After you get your opener, you can do whatever you want. There is no rule as to how much you can increase your attempts. But be wise, the larger weight jumps in your attempts can really shock your body. Everyone is different and competing is how you figure out what your body will tolerate.

If this is your first time competing, lifting in a competition is very different from lifting in the gym. Don’t try to set PR’s at your first meet. Just try to get in good solid attempts. We don’t want to see anyone bomb out of a meet, especially their first one.

If you do not get any of you squats, for instance, you may still continue on and do bench and deadlift. In fact we encourage you to do so. Lifting in an event is how we all learn.

Stay tuned, more to come.
