COVID-19 Economic Recovery Quarterly Job & Resource Fair
February 23, 2022

The first COVID-19 Economic Recovery Quarterly Job and Resource Fair of 2022 was a rousing success! Over 450 unemployed jobseekers from Prince George's County and beyond, showed up to City of Praise Family Ministries to meet with nearly 100 Employers and Resource Partners from the greater D.C./Maryland Metropolitan Region.

Special thanks to Bishop and Pastor Peebles, as well as the entire City of Praise family, for welcoming #EPG and the community into their church for this monumental occasion. They both gave motivational speeches to the jobseekers, following #EPG's own Chief Program Officer, Jeffrey Swilley.

Our next COVID-19 Economic Recovery Quarterly Job and Resource Fair will be in May 2022! If you are a resource partner or business interested in participating in this event please contact Career Services ([email protected]) and Business Services ([email protected]), respectively.

If you are a jobseeker who missed the job and resource fair, don't fret! Contact us today at 301-618-8445 to learn how we can get you started in your new career as soon as possible.

See you in May! Stay tuned to our social media and email communications for updated information regarding the next job fair.

February 25, 2022

Our February COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program Rapid Re-Employment Grant Initiative distribution event was our largest yet! We say this every month, but that's because it's true every month! Thirty-seven companies were awarded a total of $1,062,894. These companies hired unemployed jobseekers in Prince George's County. Through the COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program Rapid Re-Employment Grant Initiative, they could receive up to $15,000 for every unemployed jobseeker they hired from Prince George's County. We saw a few familiar faces taking advantage of the fact that businesses can reapply for the grant for hiring more employees after their previous awards. One business was even a referral from an earlier grantee! This may very well have been our most exciting round of grant distributions yet!

The businesses invited to attend this month's event were: Smoke in the City, Wave Welcome, Norak Global, Twyann Logistics, RaptDev, Wolf Corp Training Academy, The Agency at National Harbor, Unified Strategic Resources, Inc., Housing Operations and Planning Enterprise (HOPE), Nancy Alert and Associates, Maverick Realty, Busta Move Entertainment, Corporate Express Transportation, Inc., Scotts Enterprise USA, J.S. Contractors, A Quick Lock Smith, The Solid Foundation, eService Consulting, Connie Russell Group, The ARC, Ingenuity Security Solutions, Phaze 10, Arcyn Transport, El Poder De Ser Mujer, YRS Entertainment, Old Greenbelt Health, Smajic, Wintek, Family Behavioral Health, Heritage Care, Kiddie Land, Lili's Dominican Salon, LEEP, R2 Solutions, Kery's LLC, Sankofa Yoga & Wellness, and First Power Media Group. Congratulations to all of these businesses, and thank you for helping Prince George's County #BuildBackBetter.

We also want to extend a huge thank you to Pauletta Handy, representing District 23B on behalf of Delegate Cheryl Summers Landis, and Michael Mareno, representing District 22 on behalf of Delegate Nicole Williams. They each presented businesses in their respective districts (Scotts Enterprise USA, J.S. Contractors, and A Quick Lock Smith for District 23B and Old Greenbelt Health, Smajic, and Lili's Dominican Salon for District 22) with citations for the work they've done to better their communities by hiring within their communities. This is a fantastic example of why individuals and businesses should keep in touch with their representatives. They care!

Businesses who meet the COVID-19 Workforce Development Recovery Program Rapid Re-Employment Grant Initiative requirements are eligible to receive up to $15,000 per new hire and can reapply. Visit www.EmployPG.org/rapidgrants today to apply.

Workforce & News Highlights
Nursing is a second career and a calling for Sara Dean of Mt. Juliet, Tenn. Dean loved her work at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital. But then the pandemic hit and she saw how much nurses were getting paid to travel — as much as $10,000 a week.

The Great Resignation may taper off later this year, but turnover is expected to remain elevated, providing talent acquisition professionals with a stellar opportunity to lure talent to the organization and to play a more critical part in retaining that talent.

The post-pandemic hiring recovery will continue to be tumultuous in 2022, exemplified by intense hiring demand, fierce competition for talent and an overhaul of the employee experience to meet candidate expectations.
Ask any CEO what’s keeping them up at night, and one of the answers is probably going to be “finding the right talent.” We’ve all heard about the Great Resignation and the number of people leaving their jobs. But while companies bemoan the tight labor market, there are people who say that companies just aren’t getting back to them.

This Is Not Your Parent’s Job Market: Five Must-Know 2022 Hiring Trends
Now that 2022 is here, I’m finding that many job seekers are asking themselves this question.

Typically, recruitment teams worldwide review their practices and trends in the market at the end of each year. Their findings from these reviews guide their strategies for hiring in the new year.

2022 is no different. Hiring teams have deployed new practices, many of which intend to address the hiring challenges of recent years. And even though current labor shortages have created a highly favorable market for job seekers, candidates who adapt to these practices now will reap benefits such as their choice of top roles and an enhanced ability to work on their terms.
