Contract Agreement Signed with Classified Employees' Union
The tentative contract agreement between the Berkeley Unified School District and the Berkeley Council of Classified Employees (BCCE) announced on October 2 has now been ratified by BCCE and approved by the School Board.

In last Friday's message to staff, Superintendent Evans closed by saying, "We now have contracts with all bargaining units. My vision of a district focused on equity includes a commitment to fair and equitable contracts for all of our employees. As all of us move forward together, I intend to continue to strengthen the relationships we are building with one another as we continue to improve the workplace environment for all of our employees."
Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP): Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Meets Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7pm
All California public school districts are in the first year of implementing a three year plan ("LCAP") that outlines goals, metrics, actions, and services and expenditures for all students, and those specific to meeting the needs of students from low income families, English Learners, and foster youth. In order to consult our school community in the development of the plan, last year the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) was formed. Together with the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), the role of the PAC is to consult, review, and comment on the district's Local Control Accountability Plan.

The first PAC meeting of this school year is being held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The meeting agenda will include review of the key components of the Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP), and information on plan implementation to date. School representatives and interested community members and parents are encouraged to attend. The PAC operates as a Brown Act Committee, and includes time allocated on the agenda for public comment.

Meeting location, agendas and materials for the PAC meeting will be posted here.
Enrollment Growth & Capacity
The issue of continued enrollment growth in our schools was discussed at the October 8th board meeting, and was briefly outlined in our last issue of the A+ News. The board discussion will continue at the November 5th Board Meeting. Additional data on facilities and enrollment will be presented, and a timeline for the implementation of short and long-term solutions will be discussed.

As for every School Board Meeting, documents will be made public online at least 72 hours before the meeting, and there is an opportunity during the first thirty minutes of each school board meeting for members of the public to address the board during the public comment session.
Get Ready to Run on Nov. 9th!

The Berkeley Public Schools Fund is the official local charity for the 2014 Berkeley Half Marathon and 5K! Last year the Schools Fund raised $30,000 with the help of runners at each school. With a 5K this year, families can run together! Help the Schools Fund double it's fundraising so it can support more grants like these, which were funded with marathon proceeds last year.

The Schools Fund has already set up individual school teams. Join others in your community who are raising money for your child's school! Homepage Blog Posts
