The item I’m most likely to make sure people know about these days is the Tem-Res 282 blue “fish glove”. This glove has a breathable rubberized microporous waterproof coating on the outside and is warm and fuzzy on the inside. It is pliable enough to hunt with, but strong enough to crab with. I’ve used it for skiing and hiking without sweating it out too bad, and then of course for chores outside. Besides making the glove breath, the porous construction helps the glove dry out much faster than previous versions. An awesome glove for Southeast Alaska that runs $23.50, as a side note, they do run just a touch smaller, but they do stretch a bit. My hands stay warmer in the XL, but I hunt in the large for the most part when I need to make sure I can operate levers, safety’s, and triggers.
There are so many favorites for me that’s its hard to choose but I recently purchased a pair of the Dish Denim, never fade skinny and LOVE them. I can dress them up or down. They are a blend of modal and lycra so the stretch is amazing and comfortable and they’ll remain black wash after wash.
My go-to item in the store is the Orange Superfeet. Nice, high arch structure that makes even the cruddiest of my shoes (looking at you Chuck Taylors) comfortable and supportive. It’s also great for eating up extra volume in my Xtratufs, keeping my skinny feet stabilized and anchored. Finally, for a forefoot striker such as myself, it has extra padding under the metatarsals and toes to absorb the daily wear and tear on concrete floors.
Life is good because it makes me happy. I love the designs they do on the shirts and sweatshirts and they are super soft.
Silver Jeans because they fit so great and wear really nice.
Hydro flask bottles because they are awesome and you gotta hydrate. I always have one with me that has water in it. It keeps my water cold all day. I love the fun colors that they make the bottles in.
My employee pick is the About Town bag from Willow & Luna. They are handmade right here in Juneau by the talented Erin. She uses beautiful fabrics, quality leather and I’m pretty sure each bag is made with love. Plus, I love supporting local artists.
My Christmas pick this year is an awesome stocking stuffer - Wright socks! You can’t go wrong with these. Four of us ran/hiked from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the South Rim in 10 hours - in our Wright socks. No blisters, no hot spots, no bunching, no problems!
My new favorite is the Ice Breaker 250 merino base layers. I recently used them under my hunting gear last month and fell in love with them. Light weight enough to not be bulky underneath the other gear which allowed for ease of movement and no extra bunching in the knees or waist areas. Great wicking while being active in hiking and carrying a load so I didn't feel damp. And kept me warm when sitting still in the snowy meadows and my body was cooling down, normally I get cold in damp synthetics after you sweat and then stay still for a while. The weather was snowy and rainy and it held up all day keeping me comfortable. I hung the layers in the cabin overnight and they were as good as new the next day to wear again.
I also love the colors beyond just black!
My winter cycling kit includes the following items from the Nugg. A lightweight fleece beanie for under my helmet and fleece neck gaitor from Carhartts. 'Greenland' wax from Fjallraven, a non-greasy beeswax based waterproofing garment treatment that has restored a favorite old cotton jacket into a durable water & wind-proof cycling coat. LED Spoke Lights from Nite Ize, which provide bike tire visibility in a rainbow of color options. Complete vapor barrier waterproof Rampart pants from Outdoor Research, which have full side zippers & velcro closures at intervals for a wide range of ventilation options. A 200 lumen Bindi headlamp from Petzl for front visibility & illumination -compact & rechargeable without battery removal required. Articulated (pre-bent) waterproof Solution Paddling Gloves from Sea to Summit, with handlebar gripping superior to straight-fingered neoprene gloves. Finally, a green 2.5 lumen strobe light, plus reflective stickers & pant leg guards from Nathan Sports for rear visibility. This kit allows me to spin a double disco lightshow for motorists then dodge porcupines while nocturnal bombing through the woods, all in comfort and style.
It was hard to choose a favorite item from this store, but after much deliberation I’ve narrowed it down to two. My Oofos slides are my favorite pair of footwear that I own! Ultimate comfort and easy on/off make these a perfect gift for just about anyone. They’re meant as recovery shoes after a hard workout or a run or just after a hard days work. They pair great with the Moji foot massager! Just put it on the ground and run your foot back and forth on the rollers. Getting a foot massage has never been easier; you don’t have to convince anyone to do it for you, or even bend over to do it yourself!
