City Staff Celebrates Halloween

On Oct. 31, Concord's Civic Center was bustling with Halloween festivities! Many staff members dressed up in elaborate costumes and showcased their creativity.

Trick-or-treaters, including a group from a local preschool and another parade from the Concord Library, visited Wing A, Wing D, and the HR department. Before trick-or-treating with the littles, Mayor Hoffmeister read spooky Halloween-themed stories to our visitors from the Library. Staff enjoyed pizza, camaraderie, and an abundance of treats throughout Civic Center.

Concord residents also enjoyed a number of special events throughout the community, including Recreation Services' Floating Pumpkin Patch at the Concord Community Pool on Oct. 14 and the Trick-or-Treat Trail at Baldwin Park on Oct. 27, and the Police Department's wildly popular Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 29 at PD.

Be a Santa to a Senior

The Commission on Aging and the Concord Senior Center will host Be a Santa to a Senior (BASTAS) this holiday season. BASTAS is a service program that provides holiday cheer to seniors who may be lonely, in financial need, and are least likely to receive a gift.

Starting in mid-November you can find requested gifts on ornaments at select locations. Shop for the presents the seniors have requested, and then join us for the wrapping event on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Concord Senior Center! For more information, email Kathryn Monroy. City of Concord staff is welcome and encouraged to participate!

Children Invited to Write Letters to Santa

This magical activity invites children to write a letter to Santa and, in return, receive a special response from the North Pole. Join in on the fun to add a little bit of enchantment to your festivities. Here's how it works:

  1. Drop your letter between Nov. 27 - Dec. 8 at our special mailboxes at either the Concord Senior Center or Willow Pass Center (open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.).
  2. Our team of Santa’s helpers will ensure every child receives a personalized response filled with warm wishes and festive cheer.
  3. Response letters will be mailed to children’s homes to arrive in time for holiday festivities, creating an unforgettable surprise.

Santa and his helpers would be delighted to receive letters from the children of City of Concord's staff.

Tree Lighting & Mayor's Sing-Along - Friday, Dec. 1

Concord's Annual Tree Lighting and Mayor's Sing-Along is back! The City will host this free family-favorite event on Friday, Dec. 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Todos Santos Plaza.

Families can take pictures with Santa, and kids will have a chance to feed Santa's reindeer! Children are also welcome to write and mail letters to Santa, which will all receive a response from the jolly good fellow. For those who want to create a festive decoration, the Concord Art Association will be hosting a free, make-your-own holiday craft booth.

If you haven't bought all you gifts yet, this year we will also have Santa's Village which will include shopping hand-made artisan goods, thanks to The Makers Boulevard!

The event, will also feature live performances by the Concord High Jazz Band and Orchestra, The HoneyTones Barbershop Group, Queen of All Saints children's choir and cheerleaders, Westwood Elementary children's choir, D’Ann’s Dance Academy, and a concert by Music & Market favorite, The 925 Band! Following the performances, the Mayor will lead the crowd in a sing-along and light the tree at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the fun, the Todos Santos Business Association will be sponsoring carriage rides for $5 a person, and hosting a Sip 'n' Stroll! Local restaurants will provide tasty bites and drinks. A map of participating businesses and a menu of what they'll be sampling will be available on the TSBA website.

We hope to see you all there, and remember: "the best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!"
