IT Testing

On Monday, November 13, Sanford is going to be testing the redundancy of our connections to them. The testing will take place from 8pm – Midnight. You may see brief drops in connections during this timeframe with internet or applications like EPIC or Matrix that are Sanford-owned. Russ will be onsite during the testing for any issues that might arise from this.

Health Careers Camp

Every year OAHS, with the help of Launch Your Future Today (LYFT) and their $1,000 grant, is able to give area students the opportunity to explore healthcare careers. It's a win-win combination, with students broadening their horizons and some students coming back throughout the years as employees!

LYFT recently highlighted OAHS Careers Camp on their social media pages. You can read those articles on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Fall Skills Lab

In the last two weeks, hospital nursing completed their fall skills lab over 3 different days. We reviewed a lot of skills, including Orders/Ordersets, Documentation guidelines, Central Line cares, Intubation and CO2 monitoring, Postpartum Hemorrhage and Magnesium Infusion, Trauma and emergency blood review, Pacing a cardiac patient and Dementia Simulation.

Thanks to all who shared your knowledge for the skills lab, and thanks to nursing for spending the day reviewing all these skills! Our team really felt the Dementia Simulation was an eye-opening experience; Thanks Ranet and Courtney for doing this!

Safety

Use Proper Devices to decrease the risk of Back Injuries

Back injuries can happen with health care workers who lift up immobile patients and/or transfer them between rooms and wheelchairs. To keep yourself safe from musculoskeletal disorders and severe aches, use assistive devices such as slide bed linens, slings, and digital hoists whenever you can. Unless you get access to such devices, at least use the right body techniques to reduce the chance of accident; for example, maintain your feet aside and legs bent when raising an immobile patient. Take your time when lifting, and use the buddy system if necessary.

Last but not least ...

Thank you, Outreach and Hospital Nursing!

Shout out to all of you who do patient wound cares! We had 67 wound dressings recorded for the month of October, higher than any month since before 2020. Thank you for diligently working to take care of these patients! It's not always a glamorous job, but a necessary one. :) ~ Anonymous

Thank you, Neely!

Shout out to Neely who helps support our Outreach physicians who travel a long way to be able to provide care here at OAHS. The little things like making sure their favorite candy or snack is waiting for them at their computer when they arrive, they always feel that they are appreciated while they are here serving our patients! And even the things they don't know like you personally paying for their lunches while here! Thank you for making their days here just a little more enjoyable! ~ Outreach Staff
