- Hold the card on the scanner. Do not quickly swipe it by the reader.
- If the reader is flashing blue, it is updating your card.
- If the reader turns red, you do not have access to that door.
- If the reader turns green, the door should unlock.
- Only hard wired door readers will update cards. Hard wired doors include all exterior doors (NM and FB), and the One Stop, the Welcome Center and Academic Support Center in NM.
- If your card flashed red at an area you should have access to, hold your card on a hard wired door-your card may need an update.

Deans Searches Underway
Colleagues,
As you know, this past summer former Dean of Health Sciences and Career & Technical Education Dr. Dimitria Harding and former Dean of Arts & Sciences Dr. Rick Kurtz both accepted positions at other Minnesota State schools. In their place, Laura Attenberger was selected as Interim Dean of Health Sciences and Career & Technical Education and Cristen Cox was selected as Interim Dean of Arts & Sciences, while a search for permanent deans is conducted.
Faculty and administrative staff from all divisions were addressed concerning the plans for these searches and next Friday we will meet with Faculty Shared Governance for a special meeting to get their insight into the topic. In the meantime, Dr. Jennifer Fager has been leading the conversations concerning the best structure and timeline for these divisions moving forward.
To provide continuity for the academic year, I am pleased to say that Laura and Cristen will continue their roles in these interim positions through the end of the Academic year. We are being careful to consider all perspectives and needs with our eye on creating the best structure to fit the needs of our students, faculty, and staff in the long term. We expect to finish this work this semester and begin the search process late fall into the new year, with the new deans being in place in June 2023.
Watch for opportunities to engage in this process. Together we can hire the best candidates to move South Central College forward on its journey to excellence.
Appreciatively,
Dr. Annette Parker
President

In addition to walk-up support, the posted North Mankato hours are the same times we will be open for support by phone and email.

It’s all about momentum. First-term Momentum has a significant impact on Student Success measures like Retention and Graduation.
First term Momentum is an SCC measure and is operationalized as the sum of credits completed in the first-term divided by the sum of the credits attempted in the first-term (Sum of First-term Credits Completed )/(Sum of First-term Credits Attempted ).
In the fall of 2020—the first full semester of pandemic precautions—Momentum at SCC dropped by over four percentage points from the rate achieved in the spring of 2020.
What the graph illustrates is that even though the policy of whatever could be taught online should be taught online persisted throughout the spring of 2021…SCC began to improvise, adapt, and overcome.
Last semester (spring 2022), though Momentum was still descriptively lower than that of Spring 2019, the difference had all but disappeared and was not statistically significant.
