Ethnology Spotlight

If you've been following us on social media, you may have noticed a series of posts featuring objects from our cultural collections over the past several months. Each month's posts follow a theme, such as printing in May, in observance of the bicentennial of printing in Hawaiʻi.

Every Thursday, a new item from the collection is shared, with a little of its history paired with beautiful photographs taken by Jon Asato. The posts are written by Curator of Hawaiʻi and Pacific Cultural Resources Sarah Kuaiwa and her team; what makes them extra-special is that they're also translated to ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, and is our first ongoing social media campaigned shared in both Hawaiian and English.

Our Bishop Museum ʻOhana

Employee Spotlight |

Kailea Figueroa

The heart of our Bishop Museum ʻOhana is our employees, our fellow Bishop Museum teammates! This feature in the Weekly Update and on social media recognizes employees across all areas of the

organization. This week, meet Kailea Figueroa, Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator!

Q: What do you do at Bishop Museum?

A: As the Museum's Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator, my responsibilities include all efforts to ensure that our members know they're an important part of our Bishop Museum ʻOhana. I love this role because I get to engage with our members who are all so passionate about this historical place — their enthusiasm for the Museum and our collections is contagious!

Q: What is it like working at #HawaiisMuseum?

A: Working for the Museum and on these magnificent grounds is an honor and a joy. I'm surrounded by intelligent and driven colleagues, and feel very lucky to work side by side with them. You can feel the significance of this place; it seeps up from the ground and flows through the air in every building. My favorite time of day is the early morning, when everything is aglow with the sunrise over Kalihi and it's very magical.

Q: What do you do when you’re not at the Museum?

A: When I'm not at the Museum you can find me walking my dog Oliver or taking a nap in the warm sand. I love being surrounded by nature on my weekends, any hiking trail or beach will do!

We’d love to feature you in a future Employee Spotlight! All you’ll need to do is answer the three questions above, and send us two photos — or, we can take them of you! Click the button below to let us know you’re interested!
