| | GGUSD Celebrates Employees of the Month | | At this week's meeting, the Board of Education honored our November Employees of the Month including Christine Ditzler-Martin, an Instructional Assistant II who supports Special Education students at Allen Elementary and Phuong Thao Dinh, an Algebra and Vietnamese Teacher at McGarvin Intermediate. Christine was nominated by staff and is known for her calm, compassionate approach and her ability to anticipate student needs while moving seamlessly between classrooms. Thao was nominated by students who praised her clear instruction, extra support, and positivity. | | Carver Early Childhood Education Center Welcomes Families to Campus | | Carver Early Childhood Education Center hosted families this week for a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration where families enjoyed connecting through food and hands-on fall crafts! | | Santiago High School MESA Students Shine | | Santiago High School students Yahir Martinez, Elena Ocampo, Chandler Kim, David Le, and Fabian Hernandez earned first place at the STEM on the Sidelines Competition out of 20 high schools! With advisors Vicky Lieu and Hadas Dvir, they’ll receive $5,000 and enjoy a suite on the field at the next LA Chargers game. Santiago’s second place team—Thanh Dat Vo, Dawson Nguyen, Vivian Dang, Kennedy Nguyen, and Cody Chu—also rocked it, winning over $300 in prizes! | | Wakeham Elementary Highlights Importance of Kindness | | This week, Wakeham Elementary students embraced Kindness Week with creativity, positivity, and lots of heart. One of the special activities included painting kindness rocks — each one decorated with uplifting messages and colorful designs meant to spread joy across the campus. Wakeham scholars are proving that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact! | | Walton Intermediate Celebrates GGUSD’s 60th Anniversary | | Students and staff came together to share what they love about GGUSD by filling a vibrant wall of sticky notes with heartfelt messages. The celebration also featured a fun and energetic hula hoop contest, where participants showed off their best moves for prizes! We love seeing the creativity, and unity that fills our campuses during these special milestone celebrations. | | Alamitos Intermediate Hosts Festive Fall Family Banquet | | |
This week, Alamitos Intermediate hosted a wonderful Fall Family Banquet, an event inspired by ideas shared during the school’s Community Schools collaboration meetings. A parent recommendation to provide students with an opportunity to learn basic dining etiquette sparked the creation of this special evening. The banquet was a true community effort, brought to life through collaboration between staff including Alamitos' Community Schools coach, the ASPIRE team, and local partner Harry’s Restaurant.
Guests enjoyed elegant dinner music performed by the Alamitos orchestra along with a live pianist. Teachers served as hosts throughout the evening, guiding students through the fundamentals of fine dining. Kudos to the Alamitos school community for creating a meaningful, enriching experience for students and families.
| | TK Students at Riverdale Elementary Enjoy Meeting Furry Friends | | On Friday, Riverdale Elementary’s TK students enjoyed a wildly exciting visit from some very special animal guests! Students met a kinkajou, chinchilla, possum, and more — sparking curiosity, big smiles, and unforgettable learning moments. Hands-on experiences like these help bring learning to life, and Riverdale scholars had an amazing morning exploring the wonders of the animal world! | | Warren Elementary Celebrates Perfect Attendance | | Last week, students at Warren Elementary who achieved perfect attendance were rewarded with a fun and festive popsicle party! Students enjoyed a sweet treat while staff cheered on their commitment to showing up each day ready to learn.
