MA Health Insurance Reporting Requirement is Back!
Attention MA Employers: HIRD Form Due by 11/30/2018

What is the HIRD reporting requirement?

The Health Insurance Responsibility Disclosure (HIRD) is an annual reporting requirement for Massachusetts employers with six or more employees. The requirement is fulfilled by completing the HIRD form, which discloses information about your employer-sponsored insurance offerings.

The HIRD reporting requirement that initially passed into law in 2006 (and was later repealed in 2014), required both employee and employer level reporting. On November 6, 2017 a supplemental budget bill was enacted bringing back the HIRD form. Under this new legislation, the HIRD reporting form will collect only employer level information about employer-sponsored insurance offerings, no employee forms are required.

How do I complete the HIRD form?

The HIRD form is administered by MassHealth and the Department of Revenue (DOR). To complete the form, you will need to login to your MassTaxConnect (MTC) account and select “File health insurance responsibility disclosure”  under account alerts. The form will be accessible starting November 1, 2018 and is due by November 30, 2018 .

The state has put together a detailed FAQ on the reporting requirement. We encourage all employers to review the FAQ to address any questions, concerns or specific circumstances you may have. As always, never hesitate to contact us!
