EmployerOne Survey early results: Hamilton employers planning to hire this year!

hands_teamwork_puzzle.jpg Workforce Planning Hamilton's annual EmployerOne Survey is underway this month, and to date over 100 local employers have shared their hiring challenges and plans for the future.

What do our early results show?
  • Most employers are planning to hire this year
  • The main reason positions were hard to fill is not enough applicants
  • Most organizations find recruitment somewhat challenging
If your business or organization hasn't completed the survey yet...we need to hear from YOU. The survey is taking an average of 7 minutes to complete. We've had a great response from smaller businesses and would love to hear from more medium and larger sized businesses.

As an added perk this year all businesses that complete the survey are eligible to win a free booth (valued at $600+) at the Connect to Careers Job Fair, taking place on February 1/18.
Steering through change: A handbook to help Ontario businesses understand and manage Bill 148

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and management-consulting firm, MNP, have released a handbook that will help Ontario businesses navigate the new regulations and costs associated with Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces Better Jobs Act.
How to keep your job in the semi-automated workforce of the future

As a recent Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report points out, many of the skills that differentiate humans from computers, including creativity,
caring and social intelligence, are largely developed outside the formal education system. So perhaps a major rethink of the purpose of schools is in order.

If we cannot hope to outmatch computers in most tasks performed by humans today, we may need to start training future generations of humans to do the jobs that computers cannot.
