EMERGENCY FIRST AID & CPR LEVEL C / AED (FAC 020)
The emergency first aid course covers the basic skills necessary to deal with time priority emergencies. The RC Emergency First Aid course is now recognized by WorkSafe BC as a valid equivalent certification for the Occupational First Aid Level 1. Certification is transferable between provinces and recognized nationally for workplace requirements. It includes initial assessment, respiratory distress, CPR, AED, bleeding, unconsciousness, shock, poisons, and secondary assessment. Certification is by the Red Cross and is valid for a period of three years.

The Marine Advanced course will cover the marine first aid kit; body structure and function; toxicological hazards; examination of person or patient (oxygen administration); spinal Injuries; burns, scalds and effects of cold and heat; fractures, dislocations and muscular injuries; medical care of rescued persons; radio medical advice; pharmacology; sterilization and cardiac arrest, drowning and asphyxia.

This course is designed for parents and caregivers of children up to eight years of age. Topics include: recognition of home hazards, accident prevention, and safety education. Skills focus on respiratory distress, CPR, AED, bleeding management and common first aid situations. Further dates available online.

This course is acknowledged by the Ministry of Health and the Provincial Child Care Facilities Licensing Board.

Mental Health First Aid helps students recognize the symptoms of mental health problems or crises. The course will provide tools and support for initial response in a crisis situation. You will cover the four most common disorders: anxiety & trauma related disorders, psychotic disorder, mood related disorders and substance related disorder plus eating disorders and deliberate self-injury. Participants who take this course will be well-prepared to respond and interact confidently, when faced with mental health situations at work and in their personal lives. The EMR course provides the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness in a pre-hospital setting and includes CPR level HCP and AED. The certification is valid for three years. Being a certified EMR opens the doors to a variety of employment opportunities including BC Ambulance Services, private ambulance services (ie LifeSupport Transport), fire departments, law enforcement, ski-patrol and rescue, and industry employers in remote locations in BC / Alberta.

This course meets WorkSafe BC requirements for FirstAid Attendants in BC. The Occupational FirstAid Level 3 course is offered with the objective of qualifying candidates for certification as Level 3 First Aid Attendants in industry. Instruction includes: anatomy and physiology; injury and body response; resuscitation- oxygen therapy; wounds and bleeding; thermal, joint, spinal and eye injuries; fractures, bandaging; immobilization; transportation; recording and reporting accidents and injuries. An NIC waiver form will be required to be filled out at class. Certification is by WSBC and is valid for three years.
Health & Safety Training

This course will introduce participants to the fundamentals needed to be a member on the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee in their organization and meets WorkSafeBC's new mandatory training requirements as referred to in British Columbia Occupational Health & Safety Regulation (OHSR) 3.27 Minimum training requirements for new joint committee members. This course will serve as a great refresher course for current Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee members. It is designed to assist participants to identify and interpret joint health and safety committee member functions and duties and to carry out their responsibilities to promote workplace health and safety.


This course will introduce participants to the legislation, requirements, and processes for conducting effective hazard identification as relates to risk assessments for a workplace. The definition of what a "hazard" and what a "risk" are. Once hazards are accurately identified only then can risk levels be assigned and prioritized which will allow for a risk assessment for your workplace to be carried out. Learn how to address the completed risk assessment hazards using the hierarchy of controls to mitigate the hazards in your workplace to minimize workers exposure to them.

The Workplace Inspections & Incident/Accident Investigations course will introduce participants to the regulations, responsibilities and processes for conducting effective workplace inspections and incident/accident investigations. Formal workplace inspections are an opportunity to identify any hazards in your workplace so to develop the necessary corrective actions and are an important element of all occupational health & safety programs. Incident/accident investigations are required to be completed by an employer and where required, with assistance from the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee, when an injury or a "near-miss" occur in the workplace and are an important part of all occupational health & safety programs. The goal of all incident investigations is prevention of it re-occurring by addressing the hazard(s).
Professional & Career Training Programs

Gain an understanding of the accounting equations, debits and credits, record keeping, bank reconciliation, maintaining a general ledger, using a columnar journal and preparing simple financial statements. This course is valuable to small business owners and non-profit groups as well as for those needing to upgrade job skills. Note: Please bring a calculator to class.

Set-up and use all six modules in Sage 50 -1 accounting software (formerly Simply Accounting) with emphasis on the general ledger, accounts payable, receivable and payroll modules. The job cost and inventory modules may also be introduced.

Prerequisite(s): Basic Bookkeeping or equivalent & familiarity with Windows

This course introduces the latest version of Microsoft Excel, one of several widely used electronic spreadsheet and graphing applications. Participants will learn the basics of creating and navigating spreadsheets, how to apply formatting, auto formatting, editing, copying and moving, inserting rows/columns, simple formulas, data entry, charting and printing. In this 12-hour course we will also look at absolute and relative addressing, one of the many features of this amazing program

Advance your Excel skills in this hands-on Level-2 class using the world's most popular electronic graph paper. Apply basic skill sets along with some intermediate to advanced functions to manage and audit numerical reports. Students will learn to create and manipulate charts, work with different types of graphics, look at various methods of analyzing, organizing, linking and sharing workbooks, plus learn to use advanced formatting features.

Note: this course is on our Campbell River Campus.

In this practical 8 week course, students will learn to become comfortable using AutoCAD and its basic functionality. Students will learn about industry standards and produce simple drawings that meet them, come to understand blocks and when to use them, as well as develop the ability to take a conceptual shape and create fabrication drawings. This general course will allow students to understand how to utilize AutoCAD for a variety of different types of projects. Note: This course will not appear on a transcript.
