President's Corner

Good morning, Seven Pearls Family!

As we say goodbye to summer, this is the time many of us start to implement plans for the busy scheduled year ahead. Whether it is community service, regional programs, chapter meetings and local events, things are swinging into full gear as we continue to fulfill the legacy of our Founders. Let us use this time to reflect on how we are going to carry on their legacy.

On this 7th, I ask all of you to consider how you will pay homage to the Seven of '1922'. Community service? Planning a fundraiser to benefit youth? Chapter meetings exploring new ways to connect to the communities we serve? However we choose to meet this goal, there is no doubt there are a plethora of ways to do so. What's important is how we carry out the mission and what we show the communities while performing these task. As Sigma Women, we have always set the example of what leadership looks like. People are watching and they are paying attention. Together, we make a powerful impact!

We at the Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. are included in this endeavor as this is one of the goals we were established to perform. With us now being in Phase 2 of our operations, we are ever vigilant of what we do to honor the seven schools teachers who blazed a trail of class and grace while transforming communities. As we continue to empower a new generation of leaders through our educational initiatives, the legacy of the Seven of '1922' lives on.

Always for the Seven,

Linette Y. Caroselli

President/CEO of Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc.

Today in Education:

STEM Role Models- Why Our Girls Need Them

Representation matters. In reading, teachers often seek texts that our kids can relate to increase their desire to read. The same strategy must be made in STEM. Seeing female role models in the field allows girls to see it's possible to enter these types of professions. The current systematic barrier that unfortunately leads to the underrepresentation of women in STEM needs to be discussed and remedied.

The significance of role models in fostering self-efficacy and inspiration among girls, particularly those of color, cannot be overstated. It is essential for these young women to believe in their potential to succeed and to envision themselves in influential roles within the realms of engineering, science, technology, and mathematics (STEM). As they navigate these fields, we must actively challenge the pervasive stereotypes that suggest girls are not "good at math or science," as many young women excel in these areas when given the right support. Role models play a vital role in creating the necessary networks that empower these girls to overcome challenges and realize their aspirations. Mentorship programs are instrumental in providing essential career guidance, helping female scholars achieve their lifelong goals.

The Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. is at the forefront of this mission with its new initiative, Pearls of Wisdom, which incorporates a STEM game designed to enhance educational experiences and career pathways. This initiative underscores the foundation's commitment to recognizing the myriad benefits that diverse teams bring to the table, driving innovation and offering a wealth of solutions within the workforce. Together, we can cultivate a culture of empowerment and representation, inviting everyone to engage with the foundation's mission and fostering a sense of sisterhood as we collectively strive toward achieving our dreams.
