| | NJ Pathways Alumni Spotlight: From RCSJ Student to Industry Professional and Educator | | |
At Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ), students don’t just earn degrees—they gain hands-on experience that leads to real career opportunities. Matt Currey is a perfect example of how education and industry partnerships can shape a meaningful career path.
Matt started at RCSJ as an Engineering student but soon realized he wanted a more applied, hands-on career. He switched to Engineering Technology, a decision that opened the door to opportunities in advanced manufacturing. RCSJ is the lead institution of the Center of Workforce Innovation for Manufacturing & Supply Chain Logistics, within the NJ Pathways to Career Opportunities Initiative.
During his final semester at RCSJ, he landed a job at Lattimer USA, a precision manufacturing company. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology at Rowan University in 2023, he immediately began doctoral studies in Engineering Education while continuing his work at Lattimer USA.
Today, Matt is not only a CNC Machinist but also an adjunct professor at RCSJ’s Cumberland campus—a full-circle moment that allows him to mentor students following in his footsteps.
Reflecting on his journey, Matt credits RCSJ’s Engineering Technology program for connecting him to industry leaders and helping him secure his current position.
“If it wasn’t for the Engineering Technology major at RCSJ and meeting Dr. Bolden, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to work at a U.S. company like Lattimer and make good products to help this country and help the economy. So, this is a great job, and I wouldn’t have had it if it wasn’t for my opportunity at RCSJ,” he said, now a CNC Machinist at Lattimer USA, RCSJ & Rowan University graduate, doctoral student in Engineering Education, and a RCSJ adjunct instructor.
As the lead institution for the Center of Workforce Innovation for Manufacturing & Supply Chain Logistics, RCSJ plays a key role in bridging education and industry. Through the NJ Pathways Initiative, students like Matt gain the skills, connections, and real-world experience needed to thrive in New Jersey’s growing manufacturing sector.

Kaden Salerno, a Project SEARCH Intern at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, was recently honored with Great Save and Mission Moment awards. Kaden encountered a patient who appeared unresponsive and needed immediate medical attention. Acting quickly, he alerted the nursing staff, which led to the activation of the Rapid Response Team. Thanks to Kaden’s attentiveness, the patient received life-saving medical intervention.
Since 2022, Jefferson Washington Township Hospital has proudly hosted the year-long Project SEARCH program, helping young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities gain real-world experience and job skills through hospital internships. Many students are offered employment after completing the program. Kaden, a current intern, loves Jefferson Health so much that he hopes to join the patient transport team after graduation.
Congratulations, Kaden, on this well-deserved recognition!
