| Issue No. 19 | | | Cornerstone’s Network Connection will foster communication across our network and keep members up-to-date on the latest clinical happenings relevant to community oncology as well as Cornerstone events. | | Our Integrated Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Symposium took place virtually on August 21st, 2025 led by Dr. Edith A. Perez, CMO, CSN and our cochairs Katherine “Katie” Alexander, APRN-CNP, AOCNP from Zangmeister Cancer Center and Meredith Angele, PA from Advocate Health Care. Discussion focused on an update of recently FDA approved anticancer therapies, adverse event management related to the antibody-drug conjugate datopotatmab-deruxtecan (Datroway, now approved in both breast and lung cancer) with guidance provided on stomatitis, ocular adverse reactions, and interstitial lung disease (ILD) or pneumonitis. Further discussion focused on the adoption of bispecifics and specifically outpatient administration and management in the community oncology setting. Survivorship care planning with suggested tools for implementation, the positive impact of mentorship, the growing role of artificial intelligence, and information on Cornerstone’s Clinical Investigations were also hot topics. We are pleased to share that our efforts toward advancing real-world oncology research continue to progress. As of September 8, 2025 enrollment in our initial clinical investigation study, Prospective Observational Study on Infusion-Related Reactions with Docivyx® or Docetaxel in Participants with Solid Malignancies [Protocol CSNAVX1] sponsored by Avyxa has reached 44 patients across all 5 participating practices. Ironwood is leading the charge (with 12 patients enrolled) closely followed by Cancer Center of Kansas and Northwest Cancer Centers (each with 10 patients) with enrollment picking up at Highlands Oncology Group (7 patients) and Zangmeister (5 patients). Well done to all involved!
Our second clinical investigation study Retrospective Observational Study on HR+ and HER2-Low (IHC 1+ or 2+ with ISH negative) and HER2-Ultralow (IHC0 with membrane staining) Metastatic Breast Cancer [Protocol CSNDSI01] sponsored by DSI is now active! Contracts have been signed for more than 10 sites, SIVs (site initiation visits) and actual site activation have already been happening, and our first patient has been enrolled by Cancer Center of Kansas (remembering that data will be pulled from the electronic medical records by the relevant research personnel at each site). As a quick reminder, this study has been deemed to be IRB exempt by the Central IRB. Thanks to all who have already committed to this initiative, and we look forward to filling the remaining few open research site slots!

FDA Updates for August 2025
On August 8, 2025, the FDA granted accelerated approval to zongertinib (Hernexeos, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), a kinase inhibitor, for adults with unresectable or metastatic non-squamous NSCLC whose tumors have HER2 (ERBB2) tyrosine kinase domain (TKD) activating mutations, as detected by an FDA-approved test, and who have received prior systemic therapy based on Beamion LUNG-1 (NCT04886804). On August 6, 2025, the FDA granted accelerated approval to dordaviprone (Modeyso, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), a protease activator, for adult and pediatric patients 1 year of age and older with diffuse midline glioma harboring an H3 K27M mutation with progressive disease following prior therapy. Efficacy was evaluated across five open-label, non-randomized clinical trials conducted in the U.S. (ONC006 [NCT02525692], ONC013 [NCT03295396], ONC014 [NCT03416530], ONC016 [NCT05392374], and ONC018 [NCT03134131]). This represents the first FDA approval of a systemic therapy for H3 K27M-mutant diffuse midline glioma. Read More

The Cornerstone Specialty Network National Summit Fall 2025 is scheduled for October 24 - 25, 2025 at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, NV. The 2-day live event will provide an opportunity to discuss initiatives that can improve the viability of community oncology, enable interactions with strategic pharma industry partners, and support peer-to-peer exchange for both community oncologists and advanced practice physicians.
