Harvesting Hope: How SPCO’s Food Security Initiatives are Nourishing Ottawa

As the leaves change color and the air becomes crisp, October is a time for reflection and gratitude. It’s also a time when many in our community face increased challenges in accessing nutritious food. With the rising cost of living and colder weather approaching, food insecurity becomes more urgent for vulnerable populations.

At the Social Planning Council of Ottawa, we are committed to addressing the critical need for nutritious, home-delivered meals to Ottawa seniors through our Healthy Aging Program. This initiative ensures that local Ottawa seniors have access to fresh produce and meals throughout the year.

The Healthy Aging Program is more than just a food program—it’s a lifeline for many families, helping them find stability in difficult times.

Youth Employment: Industry Engagement and Educational Outcomes

Many Ottawa youth work in entry-level jobs with limited career growth due to a disconnect between education and the job market.

More industry-aligned programs and internships are needed to help them transition into stable careers.
