Empowering Families to Achieve Financial Stability

Dear friends,

Helping families achieve financial stability has wide-reaching benefits for both individuals and our community as a whole. When families are financially stable, they are less likely to fall into poverty, reducing the burden on government and non-profit organizations to provide assistance. Financial stability can help reduce stress and anxiety in families, allowing them to focus on their overall well-being, health, and happiness. Financially stable families can spend more money on goods and services, contributing to the overall economic growth of our community. And financial stability can help families invest in education, providing their children with more opportunities and resources to succeed.

That's why we're excited to share some updates about our financial stability work. We recently partnered with Synovus Bank and Cadence Bank to offer our Parents as Teachers Financial Literacy Class to families in Central Georgia. These partnerships have allowed us to provide families with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their finances.

Our Parents as Teachers program is a home visitation program that provides parents with the tools and resources they need to support their child's healthy development. Our trained Parent Educators visit families in their homes to provide guidance and support, and to share information about child development, health, and safety. The financial literacy component of our Parents as Teachers program is designed to help parents build their financial knowledge and skills so that they can make informed decisions about their finances.

Through our partnership with Synovus Bank and Cadence Bank, we have been able to provide families with even more resources and support. We're grateful for their commitment to our community and their dedication to helping families build a strong financial foundation for the future.

In addition to our Parents as Teachers program, we also offer a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that provides free tax preparation services to low-income individuals and families in Central Georgia. We know that tax season can be stressful for many families, especially those who may not have the resources to pay for professional tax preparation services. Our VITA program helps to alleviate some of that stress by providing free, high-quality tax preparation services.

In Central Georgia, our VITA volunteers have provided free tax filing assistance to 612 families this year, resulting in savings of nearly $135,000 in tax filing fees for these families. It's truly remarkable how much of a difference this kind of support can make for low-income households who may not have the financial means to pay for professional tax preparation services. Our VITA program also helps families access tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC), which can provide a significant financial boost.

We believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality financial education and resources, regardless of their income or background. We're proud to offer these programs to our community and to partner with organizations like Synovus Bank and Cadence Bank to help families build a brighter future.

Sincerely,

George McCanless
