Students embark on in-depth tour of Statehouse, engage with lawmakers |
Central State University alumni Lauren Morgan, ’22, a legislative aide to Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells, and Daquan Neal, ’24, a legislative aide to Rep. Veronica R. Sims, initiated a trip for political science students to the Ohio Statehouse.
Students had a unique opportunity to tour the historic building, learn about Ohio’s legislative processes and engage with lawmakers and aides on topics ranging from immigration to political career pathways. Read more

CSU launches Capitol internship program for academic credits |
Central State has announced a new internship program for students to work alongside lawmakers at the Ohio Statehouse, allowing participants to earn academic credit while gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process.
The CSU Capital Internship Program, open to students of all majors and years, provides an opportunity to engage in various legislative tasks and is now one of only six such programs offered at Ohio universities. Read more

Visit with Dayton Mayor, alum Jeffrey J. Mims Jr., '73
Students at Central State University recently received a visit from Dayton Mayor Jeffrey J. Mims Jr., a 1973 graduate of Central State University, who shared his journey from student to community leader, emphasizing the impact of civic engagement, education, and resilience. Professor Brittany Brake introduced Mayor Mims to her class, remarking, "He was once like you, sitting in these seats. Now look at him."
The mayor, who made time in his schedule to be fully present with students, greeted the class warmly. “This is a priority for me,” he said. Read more

Cincinnati mayor inspires students to embrace identity, resilience, and bold leadership
Central State University welcomed Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval on Oct. 29 as part of its weekly Convocation Series, a CSU tradition celebrating diverse perspectives and leadership. Addressing an energized audience, Mayor Pureval shared an inspiring message on embracing self-identity, cultivating resilience, and championing emotional intelligence as tools for personal and communal transformation. Alum spotlight: David Ross champions community at LINC Academy
David Ross, a 2016 graduate of Central State University, has achieved an extraordinary milestone as the youngest founding principal in Columbus, Ohio. Ross’s journey from a Milwaukee high school student to the founder and principal of LINC Academy — a tuition-free community school in Columbus — reflects his drive to overcome personal obstacles and his determination to create educational opportunities for underserved communities.

Rebecca Kocher selected as next VP for Institutional Advancement | |
Central State has announced the appointment of Rebecca Kocher as the new vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the CSU Foundation following a national search.
“In Vice President Kocher, we have found an exceptional leader who cares deeply about CSU’s mission and purpose and who has the experience, commitment, and collaborative spirit to position CSU for considerable philanthropic success,” — CSU President Morakinyo A.O. Kuti, Ph.D.
